<kral>
kett1: yes, it was the first site that i saw
<kral>
but the ocaml bindings aren't developed yet
<kett1>
:(
<kral>
i'm a totally newbie in ocaml
<kett1>
hmm...
<kett1>
you need help with anything? (besides yaml bindings ^^)
<kral>
is it difficult to write bindings?
<kett1>
depends...
<ppsmimou>
it require much care
<ppsmimou>
you easily mess up with the GC
<kral>
i see
<ppsmimou>
OTOH caml's manual gives all the rules to follow in order to make decent bindings
<kral>
maybe, it's more easy to make a yaml library in pure ocaml
<kett1>
maybe :)
<kral>
(for me, of course)
<ppsmimou>
it would certainly be a better choice
kett1 is now known as ketty
<kral>
i was hoping i could find a ready-made library, so i ask :)
<kral>
ah, please forgive my terrible english
<ketty>
it is not so terrible ^^
<kral>
:)

unfortunately, there aren't many communities about ocaml or functional programming here in italy
<ketty>
i don't know of any in sweden either...
<Schmurtz>
so, create them ;)
<ketty>
nah..
<ketty>
to much hassle :)
<kral>
Schmurtz: i've got no time and no competence :D
<ketty>
if you're on the internet long enough you'll forget what country you happen to live in anyway =)
<Schmurtz>
:)
<kral>
right
ppsmimou has quit ["Leaving"]
<kral>
but, you know, i'm not so english pratical to think in english
<kral>
so i have to translate from english to italian mentally every time
<ketty>
hmm... "think".. what is that again? ;)
<ketty>
i think me has alot of language agnostic thoughts :)
<ketty>
it is such a bother finding the right words :)
<kral>
you've got the point
<kral>
it's like to have some kind of filter in my head
<ketty>
mmm...
<kral>
it's frustrating :)
<ketty>
sometimes when i try to learn a language..
<ketty>
i think using it..
<ketty>
and then my thoughs are really restricted...
<ketty>
i can only think of very very basic things :)
<kral>
i see
<kral>
me too :)
<kral>
ketty: are you regular here?
<ketty>
yes i am..
<ketty>
^^

<dylan>
I seem to lose language ability if I spend too much time programming...
<ketty>
:)
<dylan>
Only english, though. Spanish doesn't go away like that. O.o
<ketty>
i think there is alot of similarities between computer-languages and human-languages...
<ketty>
maybe if you use a language a lot your mind adjust to it, and it becomes harder to speak other languages...
<ketty>
(temporarily that is..)
<dylan>
example: "Where are my keys?" "On the, uh, thing. in the kitchen. Um... the thing you put food on... it's flat, near the sink..." "You mean the counter?" "Yes, that thing!"
<ketty>
:)
<dylan>
or: "hey, where is my mochilla?" "Your what?" "My moch-- err, it's... I don't remember! Um. Bag. No.." "Backpack?" "Yeah, that."
<dylan>
(mochilla is spanish for backpack)
<ketty>
spanish is your mother tounge?
jcreigh has joined #ocaml
<dylan>
English is.
<ketty>
hmm.. okey... :)
<dylan>
and from watching anime with spanish subtitles, what little japanese I know I translate japanese -> spanish -> english
<ketty>
heh.. :)
<ketty>
for me it is: japanese -> english -> swedish..
<dylan>
Same thing, I bet.
<ketty>
yes.. ^^
<dylan>
though, at least both English and Swedish are not romance languages. :)
<kral>
how i envy you!
<kral>
grr...
<dylan>
kral: hmm?
<kral>
i would like to learn japanese too :)
* dylan
snickers.
<dylan>
What I am about to say is rather ironic for this channel --
<kral>
or chinese (mandarin)
<dylan>
Japanese: lingua franca of geeks. ;)
smimou has joined #ocaml
<ketty>
chinese is cool too.. ^^
<ketty>
i think it would be great to program in
<dylan>
Vietnamese is pretty.
<dylan>
ketty: APL! No! *hides*
<ketty>
you can have a lot of one character variables using chinese :)
<ketty>
and in the case of chinese characters they would accually make some sense...
<ketty>
and not be just random stuff...
<dylan>
[picture of a house] = "/home/dylan"?
<ketty>
yes :)
<dylan>
You could have some pretty insane programs...
<ketty>
thou the character for house / home looks very much like the character for pig :)
<ketty>
which i think resembles the character for elephant some... :)
<ketty>
i think the logic is not something that is built into the characters..
<ketty>
it is something you'll have to learn by your self :)
<dylan>
let [picture of pig] = function [picture of man] -> "George Bush" | [picture of cart] -> "Police vehicle" ...

you just have to learn chinese now ;)
<ketty>
:)
<kral>
so, if i have to write a yaml parser in ocaml, do i have to use ocamllex (or ocamlyacc)?
<dylan>
Both, I'd think
jcreigh has quit ["Do androids dream of electric sheep?"]
<dylan>
and funny, I was going to write a yaml parser at some point.
<kral>
and what happens?
<dylan>
have you ever used lex and yacc?
<dylan>
or flex and bison?
<kral>
no :)
<dylan>
well, you'll need to learn about lexing and parsing then
<kral>
i see
<kral>
well, i were never been afraid to learn something :)
<kral>
bye, i'm going home now
<kral>
thanks for your help
<ketty>
baibai ^^
