<robajs> hi
<dylan> aah, living person!
<robajs> ocaml uses native threads of OS or have it's own implementation?
<dylan> depends.
<dylan> ocaml bytecode can use native threads or vmthreads
<dylan> ocaml native code uses native threads.
<dylan> native threads don't get you much, though.
<dylan> They can only run one-at-a-time, because of garbage collection.
<robajs> is there a way how to run multiple threads at once on multiple cpus (cores)?
<dylan> Run multiple processes.
<dylan> that's about it.
<robajs> are there some lightweight threads similar to erlang ones?
<smimou> not in the standard library
<smimou> but there are some implementations of CPS threads for examples
<smimou> -s
<dylan> there is a communication library somewhat like erlang's.
<dylan> Event, I think it is called.
<robajs> ok, thanks.
<dylan> O'caml isn't quite suited for the same things as Erlang or CML.
<dylan> Mostly from lack of things in the standard library.
* dylan still wants mnesia in ocaml...
<robajs> then where ocaml really shines? :-)
<smimou> what's mnesia ?
<smimou> robajs: the typing system is nice, also it's quite efficient for a functional language
<robajs> smimou: mnesia is distributed db in erlang.
pango is now known as pangoafk
<smimou> nice
<dylan> it uses erlang's native records.
<dylan> it's relational, in the original sense c.f. Codd
<dylan> ocaml is really nice for creating other languages.
<robajs> how many other languages did you already created? :-)

<dylan> Three. :P
<dylan> one isn't finished, but I haven't had time.
<dylan> I have: a javascript-like language, used in a make replacement I wrote.
<dylan> an implementation of joy.
<dylan> and now I'm working on implementing scheme/R5RS
