<macc24_>
does opengl 2.1 work on bifrost or does it require shaders to render shaded and textured triangles?

yes
<macc24_>
that's an 'or'
<alyssa>
yes
<macc24_>
the yes was to opengl 2.1 working on bifrost or it needing shaders?
<macc24_>
opengl working -> usable supertuxkart i guess

<HdkR>
Khronos OpenGL CTS is just supertuxkart

haha
<macc24_>
can i play supertuxkart on g31 machine with panfrost?
<alyssa>
soon(tm)
<macc24_>
is it on git master?
<alyssa>
soon(tm)
<macc24_>
soon™ as in week, month or year?
<alyssa>
Probably a month?
<macc24_>
ok
<alyssa>
There's some compiler workthat needs to happen on the bifrost side
<alyssa>
and I'm a student, so..
<HdkR>
student is the best time for work to get done
* macc24_
doubts it
<brads>
All the best with your studies alyssa! Been following the panfrost work for some time now and look forward to replacing mali blobs with panfrost when the time comes :)
<alyssa>
brads: Thank you :)
<alyssa>
---------speaking of, I don't have class right now, I do have homework but Oooo shiny compiler work!!!
<alyssa>
Uh I need to get mainline on my N2 in the mean time with the amlogic patches
<brads>
Mainline is quiet stable now on N2 / C4, even have the vdec working on gnome wayland with the blobs and trying to incorporate vdec support into firefox / chromium, I need to do some testing for you with panfrost but in my case my day job is getting in the way.
<alyssa>
brads: I am a kernel contributor and I still can never boot a custom kernel on the first or second or third try...
<alyssa>
Not sure, something about .config totally stresses me out, too many choices
<urjaman>
yeah configuing the kernel is a nontrivial job tbh (luckily one i have been upto since my gentoo days of... 2006? idk so i'm sorta used to it, but still)
<brads>
Im sure we could find a nice .config for you to use, mostly defconfig should work if you decide to compile it nativly on the board.
<alyssa>
`trying the defconfig, it's all arm64 how hard can it be (famous last..)
<alyssa>
and need to compile dEQP in the mean time
<alyssa>
`also famously annoying
<alyssa>
I only have 3 arm64 machines running in parallel right now, that's normal right?
<HdkR>
What's ends up being confusing is when you lose track of which ssh sessions you're in
<urjaman>
yeah i only have 2 arm32 machines :P
* HdkR
looks at pile of ARM machines
<robmur01>
I've been a full-time kernel developer for years and I use stock distro kernels on my boards... :D
* alyssa
makes a joke about ASAN and ARM
<HdkR>
I too only have two ARM machines >>
<brads>
Modified shell prompts for the ones I should not be touching and a stern warning in the motd to myself :-)

...so I'm missing a USB cable for the UARt to work, there are too many USB pconnectors
<HdkR>
I subscribe to the mindset that each board should provide a uart IC on board and provide some USB header to connect to that instead of forcing a random uart device :P
<alyssa>
but it's a USB header for... micro-USB? mini-USB? idk either way I don't have the cable
<HdkR>
ah, different problem then
<robmur01>
nah, who needs USB? Currently my RK3288's debug UART is simply wired directly to one of the RK3399 board's spare UARTs, so I just need to SSH and run a terminal there :P
<alyssa>
robmur01: excellent
<HdkR>
My concern is always voltages
<robmur01>
just like things used to be :D
<HdkR>
1.8v, 3.3v...5v? Oops, burned it out

<chrisf>
HdkR: long ago i worked on firmware for a fun little automotive box which had 3 RJ45s on the back, and the way the thing got mounted you had to plug in the cables by feel. they were all wired completely differently and at least one had grunty 12V on some of the pins. this was perhaps not the best design, it blew up a lot of stuff that got plugged into it :)
<HdkR>
Ouch
<HdkR>
Just like plugging passive PoE adapters in to something
<alyssa>
does anyone understand fbcon
<HdkR>
Nop
<alyssa>
Meh. Tomorrow's issue
<robmur01>
possibly it's sending your output elsewhere - I'd probably try "console=tty0 loglevel=8" on the kernel command line
<alyssa>
robmur01: thanks.. go to sleep :p
<robmur01>
which might help get slightly further towards figuring out why userspace isn't starting a login prompt ;)
<robmur01>
(also I'd try switching VTs just to see if it's treating tty0 weirdly - ISTR Opensuse used to like to do that)
<alyssa>
thanks, that did it
<alyssa>
stuck waiting on root device, naturally :p
<alyssa>
probably forgot to build in a driver or something
