johnjay: IIRC Chez necessary for Racket-on-Chez is bootstrapped with the old Racket on platforms Chez does not officially target, such as OpenBSD.

the GC in Racket relies on cooperation from the C code in the runtime, which is added by a preprocessor. that pre-processor is written in Racket, and so the first step is to build Racket with a conservative collector
