<havenwood>
mark1_: I'd check NGINX/Apache logs in prod. Make sure ownership/permissions are squared.

mark1_: That's a good writeup. You might also crosspost to #rubyonrails channel or rails slack.
<mark1_>
Thanks havenwood!
<mark1_>
Btw no this is just develeopment using sqlite3.
<havenwood>
mark1_: NGINX or Apache?
<mark1_>
Puma afaik
fphilipe has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<havenwood>
mark1_: Hmm, you can serve directly in prod with Puma, but most folk reverse proxy to Puma from NGINX or Apache in prod. You don't have ot.
<havenwood>
mark1_: Using Heroku or something?
<mark1_>
Havent gotten to prod stage yet. I'll try out a few more things and let y'all know if I'm still having issues
<havenwood>
mark1_: Or really serving on port 80 or 443 with Puma?
<mark1_>
Port 3000
<havenwood>
mark1_: Ah, cool.
<mark1_>
Yup
<havenwood>
mark1_: Sorry, I got confused that this was in prod for some reason.
<mark1_>
I should have mentioned that in my gist
<havenwood>
I think I just need coffee. :)
<havenwood>
mark1_: You showed port 3000.
<havenwood>
I think I just saw a "however" and wrongly presumed prod for no reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

mark1_: What's the issue exactly? I see a 500 error logged. Is there a stack trace to go with it?
<havenwood>
adam12: Might have been solved in #rubyonrails, unsure though. This was the last msg:

<ariedler>:mark1_: your field is called 'images' and your post_params in the controller supports a parameter called 'image'

adam12: Something came up, just got back, sorry about that
<mark1_>
greetings havenwood!
<havenwood>
mark1_: g'mornin
<mark1_>
:)

adam12: not really a stacktrace available as this is the "We're sorry, but something went wrong." type of error. Unless i look in log/development.log but that should be the same error as pasted in the gist if I'm not mistaken?
turbo_choo has joined #ruby
<adam12>
mark1_: I didn't see an error...
<mark1_>
adam12: the `app/controllers/posts_controller.rb:24:in `show'` caught my eye, could that have something to do with it?
<adam12>
mark1_: Sure, but there should be a stack trace that goes along with it. Did nothing show up when you visited /posts/12?
<mark1_>
adam12: nope for some reason it didnt. i think i know what you mean with that stack trace error which is the one i usually get, but not in this case
<mark1_>
btw the rails g scaffold for images created an images_controller.rb, maybe i should try to move parts of it into posts_controller.rb? let me try uploading these repos/check out heroku
<adam12>
mark1_: you could try making a github repo just for this, add everything into it, then push to the repo. Then if someone is interested in debugging they could clone the repo and try it locally.
* mark1_
super excited as this is the first rails app he created from scratch :) no rails blog engine or any of that crap :)
<adam12>
mark1_: Without a stacktrace it's very hard to determine the issue.
<mark1_>
adam12: sounds like plan
<mark1_>
yeah i dont know why this error didn't offer a stacktrace
<mark1_>
"We're sorry, but something went wrong. If you are the application owner check the logs for more information."
<adam12>
mark1_: The posts_controller.rb:24 line is a call to the database. It shouldn't 500 as it did. Does visiting /posts work?
<adam12>
mark1_: That's on Heroku?
<mark1_>
adam12: Yep everything works until I try to upload an image
<adam12>
mark1_: Oh. So it's not local?
<mark1_>
no im gonna check out heroku now, 2 sec
<mark1_>
its local
<adam12>
mark1_: Wait. Does it work on your machine and not on Heroku? Or not on either?
<mark1_>
i havent tried heroku yet. works fine on my machine till the whole images thing came up
<adam12>
mark1_: Are you using Vagrant or anything? What's the URL you're accessing it?
<adam12>
mark1_: Vagrant, Docker, Docker-Compose, etc.
<mark1_>
nope no vagrant. i'm running "rails server -b 10.0.0.7"
<adam12>
Ah.
<mark1_>
ah no none of that. openbsd for what it's worth
