uuuuugghhh, CEO spam. Some guy is incessantly e-mailing me demanding that I reply to his letter advertising how his tech consultancy can help Sandstorm adopt Node.js.
<kentonv>
of course, it's all automated and he's undoubtedly sending the same e-mail to thousands of people who are listed as CEOs of companies in some directory.
<kentonv>
but it's sooooooooooo tempting to pretend he really is e-mailing me personally and tell him how moronic he is
<kentonv>
worst part about CEO spam is that spam filters don't catch it

Tell me about it. Just got cold-called by somebody who wanted to give my business money but didn't know my business' DBA names. I consider "Who am I giving money to?" to be an integral part of KYC.
<kentonv>
it's also amusing getting e-mails that are intended to sound like they were hand-written, complete with repeated follow-ups, where they all also have an "unsubscribe" link, which is of course required by law for automated e-mail. Like someone hand-wrote an unsubscribe link into their e-mail...
<simpson>
Ha, wow.

yeah, it's the followup that really draw my ire - the audacity of trying to instill guilt for not replying to their original automated email

sad thing is, statistically, apparently the follow-ups really work, which is why people send them. Ugh, advertising.
