Im strugling with pic32 Jtag. The pic has internal pullups when JTAG is enabled on TMS and TCK, and it is bad enough the driver starts to oscillate, because messes with the bus-hold circuits. Its time to hack together an external buffer.

pke: I removed the FXMA on the bside and soldered a 0R resistor network to bridge the pins ... makes that bank 3v3 only but at least it works reliably in presence of pull-ups.
<pke>
That actually is an excellent idea.
<whitequark>
that's an option yeah. I prefer external drivers, something from 74HC
<whitequark>
it depends on how comfortable you are with rework, mostly
<Hellsenberg>
what 74HC type of chip would be best to use?
<pke>
well one upside wold be with the removed driver, that jtag pinout detection will still work.
<whitequark>
Hellsenberg: 74HCT244?
<Hellsenberg>
Octal Buffer/Line driver
<whitequark>
or maybe HC244, I think you want those
<Hellsenberg>
I forget about the numbers, but if I know I want buffers I can remember better
<Hellsenberg>
well HC is CMOS and HCT is TTL-level CMOS
<Hellsenberg>
I think CMOS is what I want

Removed the driver. Waveform looks ok. Still no response to scan. Needs more research
Hellsenberg has left #glasgow ["I have been parted."]
