esden: I think using a side actuated switch is a good idea, it will work better with differen cases and also with wide addons on top
<
electronic_eel>
the only thing I'm worried about is that someone might rip it off because pressing too hard (think emergency)
<
tnt>
Honestly I'm pretty sure I'd rip the usb cord rather than look for the switch ...
<
electronic_eel>
currently the tabs go into npth holes, as per the datasheet. the holes are 0.9mm dia, the tabs are 0.7, so they don't hold tight
<
electronic_eel>
how about making the holes through hole and solder them in with pin-in-paste?
<
electronic_eel>
a proper solder joint will take sane amounts of actuation force without issues
<
electronic_eel>
tnt: I think I'd be faster with the button than with the usb cord
<
tnt>
I guess to each his own ... my hand is sitting like 2 cm aways from the usb side of my laptop so that's definitely where I'd instictively go.
<
electronic_eel>
ah, you'd pull on the pc side. that would be very hard for me, all my usb cables go into a hub which is a bit buried below stuff
<
electronic_eel>
but with the pc weight acting as counter, you are right that that would be fast
