where can I read more about the IPNS pubsub? I tried it out and IPNS didn't appear to work any better for me than it did in 0.4.13

Hello. I noticed that running ipfs_node.cat("non-existent-hash") halts the program running it. Is there a workaround?

I found something odd w/ the new update:
<petersjt014[m]>
When I add a file/folder with the shinny new revamped Files menu, the chunking/hash is completely different from before.

lidel: hacdias, we should probably still use `ipfs add` to ingest the files, and `ipfs files cp` to place them into mfs. It sounds like you might be using `ipfs files write`

<petersjt014[m]>
Huh, I just noticed:
<petersjt014[m]>
there's actually a pattern in the new one
<petersjt014[m]>
chunks of size 262158 8 times, then 4107, then repeat--for most of it anyway.
<petersjt014[m]>
And it's a video file--so keyframes maybe?
<petersjt014[m]>
though I didn't use the rabin chunker before or after (since it's apparently still kinda crap rn)
<Kubuxu>
petersjt014[m]: it doesn't, it uses trickle chunker which is better in case of appends other modifications
<Kubuxu>
like if balanced tree and linked list were a spectrum this is 80percent linked list, default is much closer to balanced tree.
<petersjt014[m]>
So is the partitioning like a b-tree now? I'm trying to compare it to any structure I know and it's escaping me
Guest87_ has quit [Quit: My MacBook has gone to sleep. ZZZzzz…]
<Kubuxu>
yeah, ipfs add is like a b tree.
<Kubuxu>
ipfs files write is like a linked list but with wider number of links (I can't recall how many right now).
<Kubuxu>
hmm, or I might be wrong
<Kubuxu>
It is late for me.

s'fine.

it was always like this
<Kubuxu>
since introduction of files API it was giving different hashes

as part of building a broader decentralized ecosystem I have found the need for a way to store arbitrary data in a decentralized way, easy to access for browsers, and works without the original publisher being online.. I've come up with a back end daemon that hooks into IPFS pubsub and distributes the data in a passive way. You can check out the repo here https://github.com/andrewheadricke/sigreplicator I invite anyone
<johnlong[m]>
to download it an participate, would live to see some more nodes to test out scaling and redundancy issues
<lupine>
the problem with distributed data stores is that they end up full of child porn
<lupine>
federation is the way, the truth, and the light
<johnlong[m]>
isn't IPFS a distributed data store?
