well i use IPFS and a gateway for all my screenshot sharing, and it's been loading extremely slow for my non-ipfs using friends

Last week I was trying to write a script that scraped all my peers' want_lists and grab that content but it turns out if something's on somebody's want_list it's hard to get :D

AphelionZ, storing explicit sontent type should be possible in future with unixfs-v2: https://github.com/ipfs/unixfs-v2/issues/11 for now you can override content-type returned by ipfs gateway by putting it bahnd reverse proxy such as nginx and changing ti on the fly for specific path/filetype

may be that only one person has entire directory, and public gateways have only directory listing + selected files
