When I try to download .png files using my local IPFS node, the files wind up corrupted. I think this may be because I'm saving the whole response, but I'm not sure what to do.

Not sure I mentioned this already, but you can obviously add more content than my 1 GB RAM/1 TB content estimate, if you do it in batches. This is rather due to a memory leak or imperfect GC.
<eleitl[m]>
The slowdown and sluggish system reaction was obviously due to swapping heavily.
<Discordian[m]>
I don't think GC will run at all during the add tbh
<Discordian[m]>
But yeah, I understood that, but definitely worth mentioning 👍️
<eleitl[m]>
I can now continue to add about 100 GB/h, with less than 13% memory use.

<sudo-apt-install>
Lol just because the teams developing them are after different goals does not mean they can't be used the same way minus the cooperation on I2P
<sudo-apt-install>
One is better suited for clearnet yes, but the other is by far my preferable when it comes down to it. I don't want to be broadcasting "hey look at me I have these files" to become a target if the protocol got popular
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
I can also use a bike on the highway. How ever that's completely retarded idea.
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
* I can also use a bike on the highway. However that's a completely retarded idea.
<sudo-apt-install>
Way to be rude instead of just discussing yeah?
<sudo-apt-install>
You can calm down that I offended your perfect network
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
This isn't rudeness. However you have no idea about both aside from a very surface level.
<sudo-apt-install>
Sure if you want to assume that. I'm very aware of the design goals of each however it doesn't take away that they're both trying to be broad networks. One is just focused on security and the other on distribution
<sudo-apt-install>
Your analogy of a bike on a highway and calling my opinion retarded is very rude however
<sudo-apt-install>
You calling my opinion retarded, as well as using that word to begin with, is extremely rude though whether you accept it or not
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
So my last point still stands. Perfectly.

I don't feel inclined to discuss things with people like you anyways, resulting to insults as some point that you win something.
<Discordian[m]>
I2P seems more similar to Tor than IPFS, no? Like you could run an IPFS node over I2P
arcatech has quit [Quit: Be back later.]
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
Your problem was that you presented some points without considering their technical base and design goals. Then tried to weasel your way out by first of all ignoring their design goals, and also viwing them for a very surface level.
<Discordian[m]>
<sudo-apt-install "One is better suited for clearne"> With the decentralised nature this should result in the file being cached around and shared, lightening the burden on the node somewhat I'd imagine.
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
I2P is basically very close to TOR, however it solves some things in a better way.
royal_screwup21 has joined #ipfs
<sudo-apt-install>
<Discordian[m] "I2P seems more similar to Tor th"> Correct, however if you strip away IPFS seeding then you get the same result no?
<Discordian[m]>
You're talking about libp2p?
baojg has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Discordian[m]>
Because kinda, I guess yeah. Just different design goals really. I believe improving privacy is on the docket, but it hasn't been a primary focus.

I'm actually surprised at how smooth libp2p is.
<sudo-apt-install>
<Discordian[m] "Because kinda, I guess yeah. Jus"> Exactly my point
<sudo-apt-install>
I'd take a "not meant for that retarded idea" over IPFS currently and sacrifice speed until IPFS could be a *bit* more secure
<Discordian[m]>
It's not insecure, it's just not private by design. Just like how regular HTTP isn't private, but you could use a proxy.
<Discordian[m]>
Like anything else you still have options.
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
ITT: People who never read one technical design document
<sudo-apt-install>
I wasn't saying it wasn't secure, just saying until it is moreso and more private. I'm also aware there are options. I was trying to just discuss things with people but I see this is a hostile environment instead

<Discordian[m]>
It's good to hear you'd consider looking at IPFS down the line, when there's been more of a lens on how privacy could be improved.
<RomeSilvanus[m]>
Lmao. This wasn't even hostile. With that attitude you're better of on Twitter.
