<antlarr>
"For using the SMB shares under Ubuntu" ... -> "For using the SMB shares under Linux"...
<antlarr>
nautilus, dolphin, and probably all file browsers support the samba protocol
<DaVu>
nope, Other Linux distros might ship other file explorers, where it probably will work differently
<DaVu>
I haven't tested all of them
<DaVu>
So, tbh, I can't be sure
<antlarr>
at least the distributions having kde and gnome work fine, and I think xfce too but I understand your point
<DaVu>
and the SMB section needs a re-write anyway due to the possibility to change SMB versions
<antlarr>
In any case, in openSUSE it works the same as in Ubuntu, would it be possible to change it to "Ubuntu and OpenSUSE"? Or maybe even "most Linux distributions"
<DaVu>
I have some Linux VMs (Fedora, Arch) at home and if I will find the time, I'll try to improve that section.
<DaVu>
Not promising it will be today ;)
<antlarr>
hehe, thanks in any case :)
<DaVu>
You are right, we shouldn't only mention a single distro if there might be "generic" terms for it
<DaVu>
But we should also only mention the things WE know working
<antlarr>
Yes, I agree. Maybe mentioning Linux in the section header and then saying something like: "For using the SMB shares under Linux, just open a file browser that supports the samba protocol (such as Nautilus or Dolphin) ..."
<antlarr>
Those file managers can be installed and used in any desktop environment any distribution uses by default

DaVu: hi... the update problem persists when updating from 8.95.2 to 8.95.3
<butterfly>
but my workaround still works :-)
<butterfly>
and with a backup it is quite smooth

Sorry for this noob question... But couldn't find the answer in the FAQ... Is it possible to migrate from libreelec 8.x to 9.x ?
<hoper>
(and keep all my setting of course :)
<hoper>
if the answer is no, will it be possible in the futur ?
<DaVu>
hoper: it should be possible. In other words we don't expect any issue with the update. But a backup won't hurt ;)
<DaVu>
anna`: when it's done
<DaVu>
butterfly: I can't remember any update problem from .2 to .3
<hoper>
Davu : Thanks ! So, I can backup my sdcard with dd (libreelec is running on a OdroidC2), and just try to manally update from 8.2.5 to 9.x and, with luck, it will work and keep my settings ? Did I understood well ?
<hoper>
manally -> manual update
<DaVu>
the .kodi folder should be enough
<DaVu>
as that's the section where everything is stored kodi-wise
<DaVu>
but yeah, dd will work as well
<DaVu>
but you will get an image in the same size as the sd card is. as (IIRC) dd can't do an image of the data on that card only
<hoper>
I know for dd. But I like this simple way of doing a backup. Even a 16BG file is not a big deal in a recent harddrive :)
<DaVu>
all fine. Whatever works best for you ;)
<hoper>
So I will try this... And come back here for telling you the result if you want :) Thanks again. Have a nice day
