<l-as> I am trying to make use of meson-vdec, but I am getting this error: `meson-vdec ff620000.video-decoder: Direct firmware load for meson/vdec/g12a_h264.bin failed with error -2` Does anyone have any idea as to what the issue could be? This happened when trying to use the v4l2m2m support in ffmpeg.
<l-as> nevermind, I just didn't have the firmware...

<chewitt> l-as https://github.com/LibreELEC/meson-firmware/tree/master/meson/vdec has newer firmware files than the upstream kernel
<chewitt> the challenge being .. with closed-source blobs we have no idea of knowing whether newer=better

<l-as> I am testing it out with mpv, but I noticed that I can't seek. Is this expected?

<chewitt> I've no idea what the status of mpv is as I never use it

<l-as> chewitt it just uses ffmpeg so that makes sense
<l-as> thanks for the info
<chewitt> pi foundation are currently on a blitz to get H264 seek working in Kodi
<chewitt> at one point we had it "mostly working" with amlogic and "mostly broken" with pi
<chewitt> pi is now working well
<chewitt> while amlogic is in the "mostly broken" category :)
<chewitt> likely the amlogic vdec needs tweaks to align with changes made in the pi vdec
<chewitt> kodi and ffmpeg use the same code paths
<chewitt> hopefully the tweaks are minor and obvious enough for the pi folks to figure out
<chewitt> because the guy who wrote the amlogic vdec code is not around, and maintainers stated to head out for xmas vacations
<chewitt> so current crew is me (who doesn't code) and pi folks (who don't know the code)
<chewitt> anyway.. the patch poking continues
<l-as> do you know what their driver is called? maybe the changes are simple enough that I would be able to do it, although I don't have any experience with the code either
<chewitt> drivers/staging/media/meson/vdec/ <= amlogic
<chewitt> but that won't make sense without all the corresponding changes in ffmpeg and knowing what we're up to, which is quite a convo

<asdf28> anyone else having having the issue that the amlogic tv box just reboots on a shutdown?
<asdf28> also, i wonder what happens after a successful shutdown. will the remote be able to start it again?

<xdarklight> asdf28: it depends on the firmware typically loaded by u-boot. some of them (like Khadas VIM) support powering down most of the SoC. wakeup is then implemented in firmware and can utilize for example HDMI CEC, IR and button presses
