<dlan> I'd like to use upstream kernel, does anyone know if it capable of running a network-based rootfs (mmc + ethernet driver)?
<dlan> my initial attempt fail at mmc driver, http://dpaste.com/0AV1ZV2
<dlan> using radxa, and follow this article http://wiki.radxa.com/Rock/Linux_Mainline
<naobsd> dlan: linux supports nfs root long time... are you asking support for on-board ethernet in 3.17?
<dlan> naobsd: yes,
<dlan> so ethernet is working since it capable of boot nfs rootfs
<dlan> how about the mmc driver?
<dlan> reg-fixed-voltage sdmmc-regulator: Failed to find supply vin
<dlan> reg-fixed-voltage sdmmc-regulator: Failed to register regulator: -517
<dlan> first glance from the log
<naobsd> I think rk3188 ethernet is not supported or has a issue in 3.17...
<naobsd> mmc may work but at least you need root= rootwait etc in kernel command line
<dlan> I haven't tried the nfs rootfs, so not sure if it works or not
<naobsd> ah, that wiki page uses linux-next
<naobsd> are you using linux-next?
<dlan> for the mmc, no, it's not even reach that stage, mmc driver is not working
<dlan> I'm using the linux official release v3.17
<dlan> the version linus released at Oct 5
<dlan> I would try linux-next
<naobsd> you should
<dlan> ok, let me try, tahnks
<naobsd> and that kernel config should be old... :(
<dlan> oh, where i can get the new one?
<naobsd> https://github.com/naobsd/linux/tree/rockchip/snapshot-20140928 or my bit old working tree (will be obsolete soon)
<naobsd> if something doesn't work well, it's normal :)
<dlan> naobsd: oh, you are Heiko Stübner? the rockchip maintainer?
<dlan> I mean kernel tree ;-)
<dlan> oops, guess answer is no
<naobsd> no

benja is now known as benja`
<rperier> dlan: linux-next works fine with rootfs over the network (nfs). There are just few lost packets sometimes, but it is usable (I am invesgating)
<rperier> I did not try mmc recently
<rperier> just adapt it to your needs (modify bootargs for example)

<rperier> not sure you might have to activate "EMAC_ROCKCHIP" (device drivers -> network device drivers -> ethernet -> EMAC Rockchip" from menuconfig)
RayFlower has joined #linux-rockchip
<dlan> rperier: mmc driver works here. it seems i was using wrong kernel config
<rperier> ok cool :)
<dlan> didn't investigate why
<dlan> just use https://github.com/mmind/linux-rockchip/tree/devel/workbench, and arch/arm/configs/rk30_rk31_defconfig
<dlan> guess it might also works with plain upstream kernel ( I mean v3.17), but haven't tried so far
<dlan> and another problem, i found radxa not so stable, sometimes ddr3 initialize failed, and wont' boot ;-(

<naobsd_> hramrach_: what is "An updated version that can replace the bootloader" ? "replace" ?
<naobsd_> rkflashkit is not GUI frontend of rkflashtool

<naobsd_> (ah, I should not mention anything I don't write)
<dlan> have problem with kernel v3.17(ethernet not work) and linux-next-20141008 (mmc fail)
<dlan> rperier: use devel/workbench, and transfer 70M data, then kernel oops, networking is down
<rperier> dlan: what do you mean by "ethernet does not work" in 3.17 ?
<hramrach_> naobsd_: what are you talking about?
<rperier> oh that's because emac_rockchip (working ethernet driver for rk3188 and rk3066) should come with linux 3.18 :)
cristian_c has joined #linux-rockchip
<dlan> rperier: don't have kernel logs now..
<hramrach_> naobsd_: I probably wrote that page like a year ago using cut&paste from some place that had basic info on the tools
<hramrach_> never used them not having anything to flash
<dlan> rperier: yeah, I think it's emac thingie
<rperier> well, for emac-rockchip you need to use either devel/workbench or linux-next. The drivers is still buggy (bu usable) so you might have panic and loose packets sometimes
<dlan> who is working on emac-rockchip?
<cristian_c> Hi
<cristian_c> naobsd_, Have I to create a /lib directory?
<dlan> here is the oops message I've got (for ethernet), http://dpaste.com/19XHCB5
<hramrach_> or if you mean the addition about your new version
<hramrach_> feel free to reword it to make it clearer. it's a wiki
<rperier> dlan: it's me
<dlan> ok.
<rperier> I developed it, issues are not directly from emac-rockchip itself but from arc_emac (the core driver which is used by emac-rockchip)
<dlan> ok, so what i've got is a known issue?
<dlan> from log: (arc_emac_poll) from [<c04d8bdc>] (net_rx_action+0x6c/0x170
<rperier> arc_emac_poll -> skb_put -> skb_panic ?
<rperier> sometimes like that ?
<hramrach_> rperier: is there any similarity to the emac Ethernet on Allwinner?
<naobsd_> (I forgot patchwork#, sorry)
<naobsd_> cristian_c: my fbset in miniroot needs files under /lib
<rperier> I think that these patches are merged if he uses linux-next or devel/workbench (as heiko rebase his repo frequently)
<dlan> anyone has any idea why mmc not working with linux-next branch? http://dpaste.com/3R0XQGD
<cristian_c> naobsd_, I haven't got /lib directory in my root
<rperier> anyway, even with these patches, there are issues :)
<cristian_c> so, have I to create it?
<hramrach_> rperier: the driver on AW tends to not crash but still loses packets. I have no idea if it's the same IP or if just has the same name, though
<naobsd_> rperier: I see
<cristian_c> naobsd_, sorry, I've understood
<naobsd_> cristian_c: if you can put files to /lib/ without creating /lib, please do it
<cristian_c> now, I check files in the miniroot radxa boot partition
<mmind00> dlan: your bootlog is definitely missing any probe messages from the dw_mmc
<rperier> hramrach_: that's not the same driver, in rockchip we use the "arc" ethernet driver, for allwinner that's stmicro/stmmac.
<cristian_c> I've found ld-linux-armhf.so.3 and two directories: arm-linux-gnueabihf and modules
<cristian_c> in arm-linux-gnueabihf there are many .so files
<cristian_c> in modules there is rk30xxnand_ko.ko.3.0.36+, but I've already got that file in my root directory
<mmind00> hramrach_: rperier: just to correct ... everything before rk3288 uses the arc_emac, while rk3288 uses a stmmac (dwmac) variant
<rperier> oh yeah, I forgot rk3288 sorry
<rperier> :)
<rperier> right
<cristian_c> naobsd_, ok, should I get ld-linux-armhf.so.3 and arm-linux-gnueabihf directory?
AstralixNB has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<hramrach_> stmmac is nice
<hramrach_> rperier: AW has stmmac on A20 and later SoC and emac on A10/A20
<hramrach_> but it is not known what kind of IP the emac is
<hramrach_> also not sure if it survived to later SoCs or they dumped it already

<rperier> well, there is a list of devices here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rockchip (in the right column)

<hramrach_> 2926 was quite common in the cheapest tablets a year or two age and you can probably still get some
<hramrach_> ehm, 2928 more likely
<cristian_c> naobsd_, any ideas?
<hramrach_> but it's rather underpowered and the support is poor so what's the point, anyway
