<rperier> mmind00: does it make sense to add boards changes to bqcurie2.dts ?
<mmind00> rperier: only if they are for the bqcurie2 device
<mmind00> rperier: your marsboard of course needs a separate dts
<rperier> yeah, this is what I thought
<rperier> I will send changes for rk3066.dtsi first and I will propose a new dts : marsboard-rk3066.dts
<mmind00> rperier: the other way around please (soc comes first) ... so something like rk3066a-marsboard.dts
<rperier> right, I always try to respect name/coding convention. I just forgot this rule when I proposed this name :p
<rperier> will do
<mmind00> great :-)

<Tony_> Hello there.
<mrueg> mhh anything cool new stuff in 3.18 regarding support for radxa?
<Tony_> Nope.
<Tony_> My device is not radxa but rk3188.
<cristian_c> Tony_, I don't know the file/directory where recovery menu entries are contained
<Tony_> Vol+ key
<Tony_> push
<cristian_c> Tony_, recovery image
<cristian_c> I've open recovery image
<cristian_c> extracted
<Tony_> in your sdcard directory.
<Tony_> update.zip right ?
<cristian_c> Tony_, no
<cristian_c> sdcard directory is empty
<Tony_> put update.zip to SDCARD with your PC.
<Tony_> It that clear ?
<Tony_> Is that clear ?
<cristian_c> Tony_, sorry
<cristian_c> That doesn't explain where menu entries are
<Tony_> Power key is mean "Enter"
<Tony_> Sorry, I can't get your question. :(
<hramrach_> does there have to be a file?
<cristian_c> Tony_, my bad, i've not explained that in the best way
<hramrach_> I mean who seas the recovery has to be configurable
<hramrach_> says
<cristian_c> I tried to understand menu strings were come from
<cristian_c> hramrach_, yes
<hramrach_> if you have a recovery image try grep on all the files. including binaries
<cristian_c> hramrach_, yeah, it's a good idea
<hramrach_> also which recovery?
<cristian_c> files are not large in number, anyway
<cristian_c> hramrach_, I'm using cwm
<Tony_> you want to know "reboot system now/ apply update frome ADB/ wipe data/factory reset...."?
<cristian_c> Tony_, the entries you are named, are present in the recovery screen
<hramrach_> then there is good hope there is actually a configuration file
bengal has joined #linux-rockchip
<cristian_c> hramrach_, I've checked all the config files in the recovery image
<cristian_c> but no trace of them
<hramrach_> try looking around their site. there might even be documentation there
<cristian_c> ok
<cristian_c> thanks
<Tony_> if you want to add a item in the menu.
<Tony_> I can help you.
<cristian_c> ok
<Tony_> Look this.
<Tony_> I tried to change menu Language.
<cristian_c> ok
<cristian_c> in the meantime, I've looked at the androtab homepage
<cristian_c> Tony_, i see
<cristian_c> but I don't find resource related, in the site I've named
<Tony_> bootable/recovery/recovery.cpp
<cristian_c> ok, the sources
<cristian_c> Tony_, the last question: when recovery is built, which files are produced?
<cristian_c> my recovety image doesn't contain the sources
<cristian_c> but many files
<Tony_> Android source tree
<cristian_c> ah, ok
<cristian_c> so, recovery get files from android partitionr
<cristian_c> right?
<cristian_c> *gets
<cristian_c> this explains because I don't find the menu config in the recovery files
<Tony_> yeah.
<Tony_> main menu is in device/rockchip/rk30sdk/recovery/recovery_ui.cpp
<Tony_> Is that clear now ?
mrcan_ has joined #linux-rockchip
<cristian_c> ok
<Tony_> cristian_c
<cristian_c> Tony_, I'd like to fix the first menu entry function
<Tony_> okay.
<cristian_c> 'install zip from sdcard
<cristian_c> Tony_, I can use 'install zip from sideload'
<cristian_c> but it requires a computer and adb
<cristian_c> connected
<Tony_> "first menu" means "reboot system now" ?
<cristian_c> second entry, sorry
mrcan-afk has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<Tony_> What do you want?
cristian__c has joined #linux-rockchip
<Tony_> My second entry is "apply update from ADB".
<cristian__c> ah, ok
<cristian__c> so, it depends from android firmware and version
cristian_c has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<cristian__c> Tony_, thanks
<Tony_> let it does not requires a computer and adb ?
cristian__c is now known as cristian_c
cristian_c is now known as Guest35088
<Tony_> No thanks. :P
Guest35088 is now known as cristian_c
<cristian_c> Tony_, I'm referring to the name of entries in the recovery menu
<Tony_> okay, so easy.
<Tony_> you just need change device/rockchip/rk30sdk/recovery/recovery_ui.cpp
<Tony_> than rebuild recovery at the android source three.
<Tony_> three -> tree
<Tony_> My have changed the Language of Recovery's menu item English to Chinese.

<kangear2> I want to know about dts
Tony_ has joined #linux-rockchip
<Tony_> Dose rk3188 boot kernel by dts(device tree) ?
<Tony_> Anybody here?
<c0d3z3r0> yes mainline kernel does
<c0d3z3r0> don't know if rockchip 3.0 does this also or if it's hardcoded there
<Tony_> I use Android4.4 source, kernel version is 3.0.8
<Tony_> not dts.
<c0d3z3r0> oh I'm sorry, I cannot help you with android
<c0d3z3r0> just using linux
<Tony_> It seems radxa used dts boot kernel.
<Tony_> c0d3z3r0,
<c0d3z3r0> let me have a look on this one minute, please
<Tony_> okay, I run command [find ./ -name *.dts] but can't find any *.dts about rk3188.
<c0d3z3r0> yep you're right I remember someone telling me that they hard coded the hardware into the kernel. I think it was mmind00, but not sure…
<mmind00> in the ancient kernel 3.0 times devicetree on arm had just started
<mmind00> so nearly all arm socs (including of course rockchip) used board files to describe the hardware
<Tony_> No, I disagreed.
<Tony_> in the arch/arm/boot/dts, I can find so much *.dts file.
<Tony_> include radxa
<Tony_> Would it be possible to add dts support.
<Tony_> mmind00,
<Tony_> c0d3z3r0,
<cristian__c> Tony_, no
<Tony_> I want to support DTS in advance
<cristian__c> <Tony_> cristian__c,are you from Romanian or Spanish ?
<cristian__c> sorry, I've got connection problems
<Tony_> cristian__c, That's all right.
<Tony_> cristian__c,do you know about dts(device tree) ?
<cristian__c> not much, I'm learing a little
<cristian__c> *learning
cristian__c is now known as cristian_c
<Tony_> I'm learning it too.
<Tony_> because In my opinion there not be hardcode in the furture.
<Tony_> *future
<cristian_c> Tony_, ok, thanks to you I've understood that recovery config is container in android partition
<cristian_c> *contained
<Tony_> you are welcome. :P
<Tony_> I see rk3188.dts in the mainline kernel tree.
<Tony_> so I thought that is support.
<cristian_c> digital theater system? O.o
<Tony_> I want to learn about DTS, but it is very difficult.
<cristian_c> device tree
<cristian_c> ahhh
<Tony_> Both bootloader and kernel support at the same time.
<Tony_> mmind00, have you plan to support dts ?
<mmind00> Tony_: I'm not sure what you mean ... I only work on the mainline kernel which of course uses devicetree
<Tony_> Don't you use rockchip CPU, do you?
<mmind00> Tony_: I still don't understand you ... my field of interest is the rockchip support in the mainline kernel
<Tony_> okay, anther question. I want to run new version kernel(with dts) on my rk3188 board. how to ?
<Tony_> Did you do what I say ?
<Tony_> which version kernel and u-boot can work well ?
<Tony_> mmind00:
<rperier> kernel: it depends on your rk3188 board, first of all you need a dts for you board or you need to find an existing dts which works for your board
hramrach_ has quit [Write error: Connection reset by peer]
<rperier> rk3188.dtsi is an include, it is for rk3188-based boards. It is designed to be shared between dts file which need rk3188 definitions. That's just the SoC description/definition
<Tony_> I just fond a rk3188-radxarock.dts
<rperier> yeah, but you said that your device is not a radxarock
<Tony_> Suppose my device is radxarock, I'm confused radxarock's uboot has no rk3188-radxarock.dts.
<rperier> that's because the devicetree is specific to the linux kernel, uboot works differently. however, I am not the best person to talk about uboot
<Tony_> dts need both kernel and bootloader support at the same time. so ....
<Tony_> need talk them at the same time.
