<c0d3z3r0>
let me have a look on this one minute, please
<Tony_>
okay, I run command [find ./ -name *.dts] but can't find any *.dts about rk3188.
<c0d3z3r0>
yep you're right I remember someone telling me that they hard coded the hardware into the kernel. I think it was mmind00, but not sure…
<mmind00>
in the ancient kernel 3.0 times devicetree on arm had just started
<mmind00>
so nearly all arm socs (including of course rockchip) used board files to describe the hardware
<Tony_>
No, I disagreed.
<Tony_>
in the arch/arm/boot/dts, I can find so much *.dts file.
<Tony_>
include radxa
<Tony_>
Would it be possible to add dts support.
<Tony_>
mmind00,
<Tony_>
c0d3z3r0,
<cristian__c>
Tony_, no
<Tony_>
I want to support DTS in advance
<cristian__c>
<Tony_> cristian__c,are you from Romanian or Spanish ?
<cristian__c>
sorry, I've got connection problems
<Tony_>
cristian__c, That's all right.
<Tony_>
cristian__c,do you know about dts(device tree) ?
<cristian__c>
not much, I'm learing a little
<cristian__c>
*learning
cristian__c is now known as cristian_c
<Tony_>
I'm learning it too.
<Tony_>
because In my opinion there not be hardcode in the furture.
<Tony_>
*future
<cristian_c>
Tony_, ok, thanks to you I've understood that recovery config is container in android partition
<cristian_c>
*contained
<Tony_>
you are welcome. :P
<Tony_>
I see rk3188.dts in the mainline kernel tree.
<Tony_>
so I thought that is support.
<cristian_c>
digital theater system? O.o
<Tony_>
I want to learn about DTS, but it is very difficult.
<cristian_c>
device tree
<cristian_c>
ahhh
<Tony_>
Both bootloader and kernel support at the same time.
<Tony_>
mmind00, have you plan to support dts ?
<mmind00>
Tony_: I'm not sure what you mean ... I only work on the mainline kernel which of course uses devicetree
<Tony_>
Don't you use rockchip CPU, do you?
<mmind00>
Tony_: I still don't understand you ... my field of interest is the rockchip support in the mainline kernel
<Tony_>
okay, anther question. I want to run new version kernel(with dts) on my rk3188 board. how to ?
<Tony_>
Did you do what I say ?
<Tony_>
which version kernel and u-boot can work well ?
<Tony_>
mmind00:
<rperier>
kernel: it depends on your rk3188 board, first of all you need a dts for you board or you need to find an existing dts which works for your board
hramrach_ has quit [Write error: Connection reset by peer]
<rperier>
rk3188.dtsi is an include, it is for rk3188-based boards. It is designed to be shared between dts file which need rk3188 definitions. That's just the SoC description/definition
<rperier>
that's because the devicetree is specific to the linux kernel, uboot works differently. however, I am not the best person to talk about uboot
<Tony_>
dts need both kernel and bootloader support at the same time. so ....
<Tony_>
need talk them at the same time.
