<khuey> so I tried to follow the instructions for doing a mainline kernel on an Olimex A20
<khuey> and it doesn't boot :P
* khuey probably shouldn't be surprised
<khuey> I wonder if I need to use mainline uboot too
<libv> since you state "it doesn't boot" without qualifying that, you must not be using a serial adapter
<khuey> I do
<khuey> it does start the kernel
<khuey> it doesn't get very far after that though
* khuey goes to pastebin a log
<khuey> after that it just stops
<khuey> libv: hmm, thanks
* khuey takes a look at that

<oliv3r> mripard: i know it goes through the driver, but the only thing changing is the location where i'm powering up the board :) and the fact that i have shielded vs unshielded cabling. so either my dhcp server causes the kernel/skbuff to crash after 5 or so minutes, or the shielding is causing something havocy. I'll try agian this weekend, using regular cat5 utp cable to see if it changes anything :)
<oliv3r> mripard: but now, i go hack on the ssd1307fb driver :)
<oliv3r> mripard: which brings me to my first question, which display did you use, as i can't find any reference to the pwm requirement for the display controller. I can understand if it was the backlight though ;) where can I buy whatever you used for the ssd1307fb dev? (and 1306 for that matter, as the 1309 is more like the 1306 actually)

<mripard> I have no idea what display was used
<mripard> the PWM was used for the charge pump
<mripard> if you don't use it, make it optional, what's the big deal?

<oliv3r> mripard: i am, I just wanna make sure that all changes will work on the current device too!
<oliv3r> mripard: also, you don't do any initialziation i think for the 1307, the 1306 has a big sequence, the 1307 has nothing, just the pwm stuff, I assume that was intended? (rely on the setup defaults)?

<plaes> I assume ssvb wants this page deleted: http://linux-sunxi.org/Category:Tablets_with_HDMI_port
<ssvb> plaes: yep
<ssvb> while we are at it, is it possible to get support for http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Multi-Category_Search in the linux-sunxi wiki?
<ssvb> libv, mnemoc: ^
<plaes> ooh... this would be cool: one can search for A10 tablet with mainline-kernel support :D

<eldondo> how to use the can bus on bananapi?
<eldondo> is there any linux drivers for the a20 chip?
hansg has joined #linux-sunxi
<NiteHawk> http://sourceforge.net/projects/can4linux/ claims to support the BananaPi
cubear has joined #linux-sunxi
<eldondo> thx NiteHawk
<eldondo> NiteHawk, other can bus devices are direct connected to the bananapi?
<NiteHawk> I have no experience with that. To my understanding, the A20 has integrated CAN - so it should be possible to connect directly to the bus
* eldondo is take a look

<vishnu> hello, I cross compiled the bootinfo.c to run on my tablet
<vishnu> it's giving below error
<vishnu> not executable: magic 7F45
<NiteHawk> eldondo: the GPIO pins PH20 and PH21 should be CAN-TX and CAN-RX, when configured properly. Those signals are available on the GPIO header (CON3), the bananapi schematic even labels them CAN_TX and CAN_RX
iamfrankenstein has quit [Quit: iamfrankenstein]
hansg has quit [Quit: Leaving]
<eldondo> thx NiteHawk
<vishnu> ohh~~ I'm being crazy, bootinfo is not for device.
<vishnu> I'm not able to extract script.bin from my A33 tablet, this is making me crazy
<wens> vishnu: try to stop at u-boot using a console, and dump 0x43000000 ?
<wens> you should also dump u-boot, which should be at 0x4a000000
<wens> the starting header contains some info like dram settings
<wens> which may or may not be filled
<eldondo> NiteHawk, so i will connect the device direct to bananapi! :-)

<vishnu> wens: I do not know the UART RX and TX on tablet :(
khuey|away is now known as khuey
<NiteHawk> eldondo: i think a transceiver is still required?
<NiteHawk> to connect "controller" (a20) and physical bus - e.g. MCP2551
<NiteHawk> (what you don't need is something like a CAN-SPI-interface or the like)
<vishnu> wens: I tried different pins for RX. however no success
tomcheng76 has quit [Ping timeout: 244 seconds]
<eldondo> NiteHawk, okay the TI SN65HVD230 is a transiver.
tomcheng76 has joined #linux-sunxi
<eldondo> NiteHawk, but is an extra part, i'ts simple to buy a can bus complete.
Skaag has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<eldondo> NiteHawk, http://www.avrcard.com/products/can_adapter.htm is a complete can bus.
<eldondo> NiteHawk, ther seems no simple way to connect can devices!?
domidumont has quit [Quit: Leaving.]
<NiteHawk> the extra device (transceiver) is neccesary if you need to convert voltage levels. otherwise you might destroy your a20!
<eldondo> NiteHawk, oh a transiver is only a voltage converter
<eldondo> NiteHawk, the trasiver is a 'must have' to connect can device to bananapi.
<wens> vishnu: you need the sd breakout board
<NiteHawk> repeating: i have no practical experience with that, it's just what i understand from taking a quick glimpse at some documentation
<eldondo> NiteHawk, yes imho two. :-(
<NiteHawk> think networking technology: you have a controller ("MAC") and the transceiver for the physical bus interface ("PHY")
<Netlynx> Is there support for the A20 CAN controller already?
<eldondo> Netlynx, can4linux
<vishnu> wens: I need to buy, shipment will take long time..
<vishnu> well, how will it help to get script.bin from nand partition?
