<vishnu>
well, I don't want to disturb the nand partitions at all.
<vishnu>
is there any way I can do which will boot from microsd whenever I want
<vishnu>
otherwise from nand partition
<vishnu>
?
<ssvb>
vishnu: you can probably try the mainline u-boot and basically use a23 settings, maybe this will even work
<ssvb>
vishnu: but having an uart serial console is a must for debugging this stuff
<vishnu>
yes, that's my next target..
<vishnu>
now, I'll try probing it after getting mainline u-boot

oliv3r_: http://linux-sunxi.org/A-Star_KV49L actually looks like a half-decent tablet, I did not know that cheap a13/a23/a33 tablets were sometimes equipped with 1024x600 displays instead of 800x480 crap and more than 512MB of RAM
<ssvb>
oliv3r_: still having a 16-bit dram bus is not a particularly great idea :(

jemk: what is Falcon Mode?
<oliv3r_>
paulk-aldrin: otg are those 'dual' ports, client and host
<paulk-aldrin>
yep
<jemk>
ssvb: loading kernel directly from spl
<oliv3r_>
but afaik we don't ahve enough ram/addressing capabilties to do that
<ssvb>
jemk: is there some secret link or document to learn more about it?
<jemk>
well, i didn't get it to work correctly, only playing around and noticed that emac wouldn't work
<jemk>
ssvb: u-boot docs/README.falcon
<ssvb>
ok
<jemk>
i guess our spl has to get some extra functions for it to work correctly
<ssvb>
what about PSCI and possibly other features that need FDT fixup?
<ssvb>
wouldn't the SPL size suddenly explode?
<jemk>
probably. I tried it on A10 without any psci or fdt fixup, but even there it didn't work correctly
<flok420>
I'm trying to use 3.18.3. I've build it with arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc v4.9.2. I've also created the boot.cmd/scr http://pastebin.com/Kwq0yEkV and please the dtb and uImage on the first partition of the sd-card. after "Starting kernel" it hangs. any ideas?
<mripard_>
a1d3s: because no one ever tried it, and there's probably a lot of missing bits.

ssvb: btw, i used u-boot-sunxi, mainline isn't prepared for falcon on sunxi.
<ssvb>
a1d3s: it handles the resources initialization in a bit different way, compared to r3p0
<ssvb>
a1d3s: but r5p0-01rel0 might be of course a totally different beast :)
<a1d3s>
whats the diffrent from r3 to r5?
<ssvb>
I have no idea
<ssvb>
never looked at them
<ssvb>
btw, do you have a matching proprietary userland blob for this version of kernel module?
<ssvb>
I am primarily interested in getting https://github.com/ssvb/lima-memtester/ up and running with the mainline kernel, so could not care less about the proprietary blobs :)
<a1d3s>
im using mainline because i have two webcams who only supported by kernel 3.14+

already wrote spl to 0x2000

but I have no idea about state of a33. maybe it is really broken
<vishnup>
yes
<vishnup>
I'm using A23 spl
<vishnup>
there is no spl for a33 till now
<oliv3r_>
till now, meaning we do have that now?

or we still do not?

we do not have it

I see there is dram settings difference, this might be causing this prob?

vishnup: did you use menuconfig to enable UART_0_PORT_F?
<vishnup>
yes, both spl and u-boot
<ssvb>
ok
<ssvb>
these should be something on the serial console even before dram is initialized, it should at least print "DRAM: "
<ssvb>
and only print the size after the DRAM initialization is done
Worf_ is now known as Worf
<ssvb>
vishnup: also you can use 'fel' to read/write memory after executing the SPL code
<ssvb>
vishnup: assuming that it did not fail
<vishnup>
yes, it's able to read/write also
<vishnup>
I can re-execute it
<ssvb>
you can try to read/write DRAM addresses
<ssvb>
before the SPL execution, this should fail/timeout
<ssvb>
but after the SPL execution, you are supposed to be able to read and write it successfully
<ssvb>
vishnup: you can probably even try to provide LCD panel settings in the defconfig and check if this works :)
