great news in the sense that: $shit_pi really is a thing people should be warned about

<NiteHawk>
great news? support-wise / in term of "community" activity i considered lemaker the lesser evil. sinovoip seems even worse...
<JohnDoe_71Rus>
libv: $shit_pi? banana pi?
<Rilasta>
I'm trying to use mainline u-boot with my card, and I've found some configuration problem when adding commands in the defconfig file like cpuinfo), to whom I shall report theses ?
<libv>
NiteHawk: great news in that it shows very clearly and publically how people are being taken in this whole story
<libv>
JohnDoe_71Rus: $shit_pi is for any of the rpi ripoffs
<NiteHawk>
Rilasta: if it's specifically related to sunxi (Allwinner SoCs), it should probably go to the linux-sunxi mailing list, otherwise to the U-Boot one - the people involved with the U-Boot sunxi arch will likely monitor both
<libv>
Rilasta: which device is this again?
<Rilasta>
Generic chinese-made A13 board . But the bug I'm referring to can be reproduced with OLinuXino.
<Rilasta>
make -j4 CROSS_COMPILE=arm-linux-gnu- A13-OLinuXino_defconfig , then make menuconfig and add «cpu», in «command line interface»,«Info command».
<Rilasta>
common/built-in.o: In function `print_cpu_list': u-boot/common/cmd_cpu.c:37: undefined reference to `cpu_get_desc'
<libv>
Rilasta: even then, run through the new device howto and get your device documented
<libv>
as for $shit_pi, still have not heard back from our potential german gpl violator
<Rilasta>
libv : this is what I intend to do, but first, I'm trying to make it work :). So far, I've written dts file, and succesfully make u-boot works, but only through FEL. When I try to follow the procedure here to boot on SD card (http://linux-sunxi.org/Bootable_SD_card), I have an error «bad magic».
<libv>
Rilasta: i have heard that first sentence a million times already
<Rilasta>
But the u-boot bug I'm talking about is not related to my board, I think it is a problem with KConfig dependencies.
<libv>
Rilasta: and the new device howto clearly explains why it is a fallacy, apart from it often being a lie
<Rilasta>
So in order to get some help, I have to release informations about a board not released yet ?
<NiteHawk>
Rilasta: i think if code from common/ complains about missing functions, then it's likely that the arch- or board-specific implementation of that is absent / to be written.

Ok, I guess I wasn't really clear : there is a dependency problem in the current mainline u-boot. The option CMD_CPU in u-boot/common/Kconfig also needs the option «CPU» ("Enable CPU drivers using Driver Model") located in u-boot/drivers/cpu/Kconfig.
book` has joined #linux-sunxi
<Rilasta>
So, something like "depends on CPU" shall be added under «bool "cpu"»
<Rilasta>
I've tried this solution, and it works.
mzki has joined #linux-sunxi

Rilasta: whip up a patch and send it to u-boot mailing list?

sounds like it's a minor Kconfig problem then

I don't think there's something fundamentally new in that announcement, regarding their similar statement from may? It also makes me wonder how it fits in with the former "4. Based upon above understandings, Foxconn has encouraged both SinoVoip and LeMaker to cease all trademark claims and disputes, and remove all offensive statements on websites against each other."
<NiteHawk>
can we conclude that "foxconn" (more likely kortide) has failed as a mediator, and the $shit_storm will be taken to the next level?
<libv>
NiteHawk: ah, the $shit_pi_storm
JohnDoe_71Rus has joined #linux-sunxi

\o/ #shit_pi_storm - where the "like" button? :D
<libv>
anyway, i sent a reminder to my original mail to in-circuit.de and took the owner in CC
<libv>
i am going to give them until next monday to come up with a reply.
<libv>
but so far, they definitely do seem to deserve a spot amongst the $shit_pis

errr... sorry, make that "common/Kconfig" of course
<Rilasta>
It si not related to sunxi, so I guess a bug report to the maintainer of u-boot would be the best thing to do.
<Rilasta>
is
<NiteHawk>
i'm wondering if the specific cpu driver (selection) is maybe supposed to set CONFIG_CPU? for now, the sunxi arch doesn't seem to provide any useful information to the "cpu [list|details]" command(s)
<NiteHawk>
but in that case it should be "the other way around", with CMD_CPU explicitly depending on CONFIG_CPU (and the menu option unavailable if it isn't defined)
<NiteHawk>
i'd say let's call it a bug :)

montjoie: yeah, but the CPU is busy doing other things during that time
<mripard>
it's just like interrupts. Polling is always faster. Except that if you poll for interrupts, you're never doing something else
<montjoie>
I agree, in final I will create an option for letting user to choose
<mripard>
a configuration option ?
<montjoie>
with Kconfig or module_param I dont know
<mripard>
a module parameter would be better
<montjoie>
probably like a "minimal len for dma"
<montjoie>
but I convinced that playing with DMA engine DDMA_PARA_REG register could boost something
<montjoie>
but all my tries fail with DMA never ending, or worst, bad transfer

hello! uboot 2015.01 fails to detect RAM on an olimex lime (DRAM 0 - ERROR please reset the board), but succeeds on lime2. I can confirm that RAM is working on that board since the built-in Android image boots and other versions of uboot detect it correctly. Is there a way to convince uboot to detect my RAM without switching to 2015.04?
