<oliv3r>
Wizzup: yeah no problem at all with the right dts

oliv3r: So I think I made the right DTS, and the device shows up in lsusb, but there's no power on the line
<Wizzup>
oliv3r: What I did worked fine on the A10-LIME, but not on the A20-LIME2 - both give pretty much identical dmesg (no errors), but the A20-LIME2 gives no power over vbus
<Wizzup>
oliv3r: So I was kind of wondering what your dts looked like

<Wizzup>
oliv3r: http://sprunge.us/KOOM is the 'normal' patch to add otg to the a20 lime2 that works for me and meridion
<Wizzup>
oliv3r: but when you set dr_mode to host only and set kernel role to host only (OR: just use an OTG cable), there is simply no power coming out of the lime2 on said port
<Wizzup>
(right, and with the dr_mode to host trick, also remove the id det and vbus det gpios)
<Wizzup>
(this is basically what I did for the a10 lime, and with that device it worked)

Gadget mode seems to be working just fine, and there is also a root hub visible for the OTG port on the device, but plugging in a OTG cable seems to do nothing, even with devices that are self-powered
<meridion>
an OTG*
<Wizzup>
oliv3r: so to force host mode, I think I did what you mentioned the ML as well - but alas, still doesn't work on LIME2 A20, but works fine on A10 LIME

(yes, I've seen the wiki)

hi
<zoobab_>
got serial console on a Q8 tablet with a broken screen
<Inode>
do any of you use any sort of additional isolation between your device UART and adapter?

@mripard: Is it posible for me to edit the wiki?
<faddat>
;'cause I've been through the thing quite a bit lately, and I didn't know that it wasn't possible, so I'm thiinking to add a "traffic light" to each of the devices pages
<zoobab_>
if I give 900mA 5V DC to the Q8 tablet, is it enough?
<zoobab_>
uboot seems to complain
<zoobab_>
[ 6.828] extenal power low go high startup
<zoobab_>
[ 6.828] enter standby
<faddat>
@zoobab: what're you dong with a q8? also, is it a q8, as opposed to a q88?
<zoobab_>
I put 2A adaptor to the external connector with a Nokia pin
<zoobab_>
still the same message
<zoobab_>
[ 6.889] extenal power low go high startup
<zoobab_>
[ 6.889] enter standby
<faddat>
is the battery attached?
<libv>
zoobab_: even with a working sdcard?
<libv>
zoobab_: you should probably dig through boot1 code and see what it does and what it means with that uart log you have there
<zoobab_>
I am trying to find out what is means
kaspter has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<Inode>
zoobab_: did you leave the battery to charge for a while with the device off?
<zoobab_>
no I think I will leave it for a while to see if it makes a difference
<zoobab_>
I think this is the battery level [ 0.157] bat vol = 3848
<zoobab_>
and it gets higher over time
<zoobab_>
I will shoot an email to the ML, maybe someone knows how to skip that "extenal power low go high startu" error
<libv>
zoobab_: is that an error?
<libv>
or is that just the reason why the device was woken up?
<Inode>
i know i see that message over UART when my tablet battery charge level is very low
<zoobab_>
I will leave it longer
<zoobab_>
maybe the battery is dead
<libv>
zoobab_: try to remind me on saturday/sunday, when i actually have access to the exact device documented on the wiki
<libv>
iirc, i do have a uart soldered to it
<zoobab_>
thx
<zoobab_>
I will leave it charging to see if it is different
<zoobab_>
or try to put another lipo battery on it
asmir has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Inode>
zoobab_: are you going to run your device headless?
<zoobab_>
yes
<zoobab_>
I am gonna bridge the serial over an esp8266 wifi bridge
<zoobab_>
will make a page on the wiki, it might interest others
<zoobab_>
being able to access serial over the wifi is super handy
<Inode>
will you add any switch between the board and the battery and power indication at all?
<zoobab_>
I am trying to remove the battery
<Inode>
i've been wondering about how others run their damaged tablets in a headless state for long periods of time, with those i've played with, i've found it's easy to forget whether a device is powered up or not without the LCD attached
<zoobab_>
the lipo battery is nice as a power backup for a server

Inode: have you checked like aliexpress whether cheap replacements are available?
<libv>
or is it just too expensive to ship things from .cn to .sa?
<Inode>
libv: the price is much lower ordering parts from .cn than purchasing them from dodgy cellphone shops from in .za
<libv>
ah, za, how could i have missed that as a dutch speaker :)
<libv>
Inode: right, but still not worth the hassle and the overhead i guess
<Inode>
well, it is .za due to "zuid afrika" after all ;)
<Inode>
i did order three new digitizers for three needy tablets though
<Inode>
but, the LCD that i ordered for the inet-d70 was not shipped within the window aliexpress gives to the supplier
<libv>
heh
<Inode>
so the LCD order was cancelled,
<Inode>
i have to try a different supplier next, or look at a different site altogether
<libv>
right, so all that trouble of making really sure that you actually get what you need (which is always a bit touch-and-go on aliexpress) was for naught

@mripard Now, I know who you are and what you do, so I can say with great confidence you're someone who "knows what they're talking about"(tm). I have to send you a link from the kernel mailing list because.... well, I am a little baffled:
