<asmir> guys, is sunxi vdpau unstable by default or am I doing someting wrong - because I expirience crashes by playing fhd video with cma=128M?
<ssvb> asmir: on which hardware, with which kernel and how exactly does it crash?
<asmir> custom board with A20, simmilar to lime2 and kernel is 3.4 sunxi
<asmir> to be more precise: 3.4.103-00033-g9a1cd03
<asmir> output is VGA and player is mpv
<rellla> asmir: which libvdpau-branch?
<ssvb> also it's a good idea to try some videos, which are known to work fine, for example http://download.blender.org/durian/trailer/sintel_trailer-1080p.mp4
<asmir> I didn't change branch, so it has to be master
<asmir> sinter trailer is too short, it happens after 5-10 min
<asmir> and it's not overheating
<asmir> (I downloaded a video from youtube with mp4 container and h264 codec)
<asmir> and I forgot the crash is just screen freezing, mostly becoming green
<asmir> and I don't get any response from ssh server
<ssvb> is this the only video that causes it crash?
<asmir> yes
<asmir> I did other stress tests and it passes
<asmir> oh sry I did read it wrong, no it happens with other videos too
<asmir> but only with videos
<ssvb> maybe try a full sintel video instead of the trailer
<asmir> I'll try
<rellla> what are your dcdc2_vol and dcdc3_vol set to?
<ssvb> asmir: what kind of stress tests have you tried? was it lima-memtester?
<rellla> i had stability problems with cubieboard because of missing https://github.com/linux-sunxi/sunxi-boards/commit/2d3330814b38a2a857958b3b3fd97c3f473bfd7b
<rellla> same behaviour.
<asmir> nope, random cpu stress tests like openssl speed
<asmir> @rellla I'll check that too
nicksydney has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<ssvb> asmir: these are the tests, which actually have a much better chance of identifying hardware reliability problems - http://linux-sunxi.org/Hardware_Reliability_Tests
<asmir> ok, I'll do them now
<rellla> libvdpau should be quite stable. at least with the known working codecs/files
<asmir> good to know, maybe it's the hardware/voltage

<asmir> I tried setting dram_clk to as low as 200, but still
<ssvb> asmir: oh, you should not reduce the dram clock speed below 300MHz, and 360MHz should be already low enough
<asmir> oh, ok
<ssvb> memory corruption detected by lima-memtester typically means either too high dram clock speed or bad impedance settings
<ssvb> deadlocks usually mean insufficient dcdc3 voltage
<asmir> hmm, as our hw guy said schematics are the same as by lime2 and ddr routing is good to
<asmir> and for dcdc3 I already tried mainline and sunxi u-boot
<asmir> but maybe it could be power supply
<ssvb> yes, checking the power supply is also a good idea
<asmir> I just thought that the axp will iron any jitter out
<ssvb> what is your current power supply?
<asmir> we tried power 12V adaptor over voltage regulator and a 5V variable adaptor over different regulator
<asmir> voltage is ok, just maybe jitter

<Dodger78> hi guys, any idea when A80 SMP will be mainlined ? can we hope for A80 usb3 support in mainline also ?
afaerber has quit [Quit: Ex-Chat]
<mripard> Dodger78: no idea, and yeah, when someone will start working on it
<mripard> Dodger78: I'm guessing you just volunteered yourself ? :)
<Dodger78> :-) i can code C / assembly and im used to embedded . but i didnt develop linux kernel and have little / no info about allwinner a80
<Dodger78> im just wondering, since A20 is very well supported by now and A80 ( their flagship ) is kind of nowhere
<mripard> Dodger78: welcome to the club
<Dodger78> :-P maybe its time to buy something else than allwinner
<Dodger78> my old cubietrucks still win the race over the cubieboard 4 . ROFL . and now they place even more chips like H3 or A83 , but A80 support still sucks
akaizen has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<mripard> Dodger78: the main issue is: we have a limited amount of resources (dev time). We can either focus on having the missing useful features for the SoC that most use (A20), or spend time to support yet another SoC that will have half-baked support
<Dodger78> ah ok , sorry i dont wanted to bother you. A20 support is good and im looking forward to full sound support. Hope that A80 will also get the love in some time

<innes> ssvb: i think i am using mainline kernel, using console=fb was probably the crucial point as i was using console=tty0) which also worked for sunxi but not for stage 2 while loading my OS
<Seppoz> its ttyS0 i think
<innes> that is for serial
<Seppoz> what did you want?
<innes> which also worked
<innes> i wanted to boot a NetBSD image, but it worked already so thx anyway btw :)
<Seppoz> its only works because of my ttyS0 tip admit it xD
<Seppoz> you can just hardcode the kernel arguments
<innes> nah
<innes> i changed the boot.cmd from console=tty0 to console=fb then it worked
<innes> connecting via UART also worked ofc, probably default settings anyway
<innes> i was trying to boot via HDMI as well, and checked all the kernel arguments for a while in boot.cmd/boot.scr heh
