<MoeIcenowy> BenG83: TL Lim have mailed me and apritzel, not confidential version
<BenG83> I have the LPDDR3 datasheet
<BenG83> but not that eMMC
<MoeIcenowy> oh I'm wrong...
<MoeIcenowy> I don
<MoeIcenowy> but for eMMC the datasheet seems not as important as LPDDR
<BenG83> the eMMC module works so far for me
<BenG83> just looking into how to boot from SPI Flash
<MoeIcenowy> which board?
<BenG83> SOPine
<MoeIcenowy> prod ver?
<BenG83> yes
<beeble> just put the bootloader into the flash and have no other on the emmc or sd card
<beeble> nor will be checked last
<BenG83> programming can be done via FEL?
<BenG83> atm I am just writing some code using spidev to talk to the flash
<beeble> probably. haven't checked the sunxi-tools for some time
<beeble> but you can use uboot or linux too (as long you have spi and the sf command enabled in uboot and mtd in linux)
atsampson has quit [Quit: new irssi time]
atsampson has joined #linux-sunxi
<BenG83> ah nice I'll have a look there, thanks
<BenG83> I can probably make a SOPine dts out of the pinebook dts...
<BenG83> is anyone coming to Embedded World next week?
<beeble> i'm skipping this year
kivutar has quit [Ping timeout: 260 seconds]
<ssvb> beeble: yes, that's a flashing method, which works on any board and any Allwinner SoC generation (neither U-Boot nor Linux kernel is needed)
<BenG83> ssvb, nice
<beeble> ssvb: i'm just used to do it in u-boot or linux as part of the test procedure. have nothing against fel
<ssvb> with u-boot or linux you have a bootstrap problem and need to have a usable firmware on the board before programming spi flash
<BenG83> with the MCUs at work I usually use JTAG to load the Flash programmer into RAM
<BenG83> that is probably similar what happends using FEL
<ssvb> yes, it's somewhat similar
<beeble> i tend to have a useable firmware before i try to flash the spi :)
<beeble> so different usecases i say

<KotCzarny> why the heck it costs more than opi+2e while having half the mem and emmc? (and one less usb port)
<sunxisundo> Whats script.bin supposed to look like?
<TheLinuxBug> slightly cheaper direct before shipping, http://www.friendlyarm.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=69&product_id=176 its basically the OPi PC Plus with bluetooth and 1Gbps instead of 100mbit I think?
<TheLinuxBug> and, 'the smaller form factor'
<KotCzarny> TheLinuxBug: but compared to opi+2e ? does it have any advantages other than smaller board? (which is an disadvantage really when it comes to heat)
<TheLinuxBug> Not really, I see it as a competitor to OPi PC Plus though, which if you buy from say 'banggood' or someone besides Aliexpress is $28.99 and they sell the Friendly arm version with bluetooth and gigabit NIC for $30 (both before shipping)
<sunxisundo> and more importantly is it possible for a device to only have a fex file onboard and no script.bin
<KotCzarny> sunxisundo: fex isnt used for anything other than be the source for .bin
<TheLinuxBug> Of Course OPi Plus 2# is better than both...
<TheLinuxBug> 2E*
<TheLinuxBug> considering what you get at the pricepoint
wzyy2 has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<TheLinuxBug> I did finally order a PC Plus, should come this week...
<sunxisundo> KotCzarny: grepping the extracted firmware reveals no script.bin, but theres what appears to be a FEX file named: COMMON _SYS_CONFIG100000
<TheLinuxBug> had considered the FriendlyArm version though as well
<KotCzarny> TheLinuxBug: hah, sucker for punishment?
<KotCzarny> sunxisundo: have you read the wiki?
<TheLinuxBug> KotCzarny: I suppose, the people from AliExpress told me "wait 10 days and we guarentee a resolution" which I am hoping isn't foreign for "we take your money, bye!"
<sunxisundo> KotCzarny: yeah, but its not exactly clear, especially if your device seems to deviate from the norm
<KotCzarny> sunxisundo: there are other ways to extract bin/fex than just firmware grep
<TheLinuxBug> KotCzarny: so I tried my luck with banggood, the only other reasonably priced alertenative.. we will see
<sunxisundo> KotCzarny: i don't have USB OTG
<KotCzarny> TheLinuxBug: i hope aliexpress will get your ass covered
<TheLinuxBug> I am getting anxcious for EXPRESSObin though!
<TheLinuxBug> should be any day I hope!
<TheLinuxBug> ESPRESSObin even..
<TheLinuxBug> too excited.
<TheLinuxBug> need to cut back on the coffee..
<KotCzarny> yeah, will be interesting to see how it behaves in real tests
<TheLinuxBug> indeed. I noticed on https://forum.armbian.com/index.php?/topic/3045-support-of-helios4-intro/ the image is not broken... and no update for a while.. was kind of interested to see where that went
<TheLinuxBug> s/not/now
<KotCzarny> storage oriented, nice
<TheLinuxBug> yeah was thinking to compare the performance on the ESPRESSObin with the Helios4 if it ever came to exist... but seems to have gone stale
<KotCzarny> but this SoC will heat up to 70°C in idle (with this "stock" heatsink) without active cooling
<KotCzarny> lol
<KotCzarny> 70C in idle?
<sunxisundo> Is the bootinfo info used for anything?
<KotCzarny> probably not
<KotCzarny> maybe some vendor software uses it
<sunxisundo> the wiki says i need it, then never mentions it again XD
<KotCzarny> my fex files dont have it and work fine
<KotCzarny> also, which soc are you working on?
<sunxisundo> A20
<KotCzarny> go mainline
<KotCzarny> it's almost fully supported
<KotCzarny> (and mainline doesnt use fex anymore)
TheSeven has quit [Disconnected by services]

<sunxisundo> Yeah, doesn't that mean i need to know how to create a devicetree though?
<KotCzarny> is it custom made device with weird layout?
<sunxisundo> its a cheapo HTPC thingy
<KotCzarny> there is a high chance they didnt differ from reference design
<sunxisundo> how would i know?
<TheLinuxBug> KotCzarny: it also looks like the Friendly Arm version you lose the DC barrel plug which means for any real high cpu stability you would probably use the gpio pins for power and 1 x USB 2.0 it looks like as well - FriendlyArm does not advertise the M1 Plus to come with an Android image
<KotCzarny> TheLinuxBug: it's h3, most likely some generic image will work :P
<TheLinuxBug> ;)
<KotCzarny> sunxisundo: ho, hum. compare available devicetrees to spot any irregularities then create minimal set?
JohnDoe_71Rus has joined #linux-sunxi
* sunxisundo sees over 1000 arm devicetree files in mainline
<sunxisundo> XD
<sunxisundo> :(
<KotCzarny> sunxisundo: you only want those for A20 soc
<KotCzarny> and probably can ignore tablet ones
* sunxisundo looks towards the legacy kernel

<KotCzarny> [default config options for generic sunxi device
lurchi__ has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<sunxisundo> sunxi_defconfig doesnt exist
<KotCzarny> in mainline it sure exists
<sunxisundo> the wiki tells me to git clone some random other git
<sunxisundo> for the legacy kernel
<sunxisundo> which i would prefer because i have no idea how to make a devicetree
wzyy2 has joined #linux-sunxi

<williamfligor> Has anyone here had success with the Nanopi Neo Air on 4.10.1 with brcmfmac? I have loaded the nvram .txt file but still get brcmfmac: brcmf_sdio_htclk: HT Avail timeout (1000000): clkctl 0x50. I have tried Armbian nightly builds and the WiFi works on them.

<MoeIcenowy> williamfligor: have you loaded the correct firmware?
<MoeIcenowy> I used to meet this problem when I'm trying to load a RPi3 Wi-Fi firmware to an AP6212
<williamfligor> I just found that a user on this IRC that said that the neo air required a different firmware file (https://vps.vdwaa.nl/~jelle/brcm/) than normal. I will try that when I get a chance. I am currently trying the one from linux-firmware.
<williamfligor> @MoeIcenowy
<MoeIcenowy> do not use the one.
<MoeIcenowy> I think jelle's firmware is ok
<MoeIcenowy> he's the author of Nano Pi NEO Air device tree
<williamfligor> Thanks I will try jelle's when I get back home. The MD5 of that one matches Armbian's so hopefully that is the issue.
phipli has joined #linux-sunxi
<jelle> williamfligor: what's the issue?
<jelle> I literally took the one from armbian btw :)
<jelle> I wonder how this should be upstreamed though linux-firmware though :S
<williamfligor> @jelle I am just having trouble getting brcmfmac to load. I get the HT Avail timeouts (as far as I can tell these occur when brcmfmac attempts to bring up the SDIO interface but I'm not sure. Very new to this)
<williamfligor> @jelle any chance you have your dts file, defconfig, and the brcmfmac nvram .txt file? I'm trying to gather all the resources I can find so when I get back home later today I can try them all.
<williamfligor> nvm on the .txt file, it's in that link.
