plaes: after i applied only this v6 1 /6 ( https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9841255/ ), compilation of the whole kernel went through flawlessly.. had to put some magic numbers in place of CLK_PLL_VIDEO0_2X (8) and CLK_PLL_VIDEO1_2X (17) i suppose because the kernel tree/branch linux-sunxi/dt-for-4.15 doesn't "know" those MACRO, at least this is my best shot..

wens: i didn't patch hdmi.. if it's not patched in latest v7 patch-set and in the v6 [1/6] here https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/9841255/ (that fixes the missing fixed divider for SATA driver)
<sunxi_fan>
now i think i have to rework the DTSI/DTS that IMHO are not catching up correctly the "connection scheme" of a dual pipeline..
<sunxi_fan>
i'm going to post those and the boot log in a few moment..

wens: are you talking about the "hdmi driver"?
<sunxi_fan>
this "drivers/gpu/drm/sun4i/sun4i_hdmi_enc.c" with compatible: { .compatible = "allwinner,sun5i-a10s-hdmi" },
<sunxi_fan>
i don't mind if i see a kernel crash if the HDMI HW core of sun5i is different then the sun4i/sun7i, at least i would know the DTS setup is "good enough" to make the kernel "try" to drive the HW (and i could eventually spot the differences between HDMI cores and patch the kernel drivers .. that would be the FUN part!! :-)
<sunxi_fan>
actually i do not see a lot ongoing because i still think the DTS/DTSI cfg is not quite there..
<sunxi_fan>
the example cfg described in Documentation/../sun4i-drm.txt is a bit poor in that respect, IMHO..

what is the opi zero expansion board like? i get the impression it's not very good, and if you need something like that you should just get a different opi. what do you think?
<ullbeking>
back story:
<KotCzarny>
good if you are lazy and want it expanded from original cheap board, bad, because opi+2e or any big board versions has much better heat dissipation anyway
<ullbeking>
i placed an aliexpress order including opis, including opi zero and opi +2e, but due to glitches in payment system the whole order was canceled and items never sent; i didn't find out until over a month later
<ullbeking>
also, the opi +2e is out of stock due to factory problems but should be back on about a month

<willmore>
ullbeking, I like the Orange Pi PC2. H5 chip, gig E, three native USB ports.
<willmore>
The PiZ expansion board is pretty nice. There are two USB ports on that 13 pin header and those route to USB<>SATA converters or to USB jacks.
<willmore>
The non-NAS expansion board just has USB jacks and some audio and IR stuff--that I don't care about so I don't know much about it.
<willmore>
ullbeking, it's best to power from a jack and not a USB port. USB port power is unreliable at best.
