<adj__2> vpeter, it's also valid in Spain, some japanese restaurant trademarked "ramen" (noodles soup) or something like that, and started threatening other restaurants for using it in their names or on their shop windows
<adj__2> as "ramen" is not a generic word in spanish they were allowed to register it

<pgreco> wens, too bad r40 usb phy didn't make it
<wens> it happens :(
<pgreco> yes, I'm using an alternate compatible
<pgreco> to match it to another device
<pgreco> not perfect, but it works
<willmore> Can we add that to the Topic for this channel? "not perfect, but it works"
<KotCzarny> isn't that a word play on 'good enough [tm]' linux motto?
<willmore> Yep.

<pgreco> wens, who decides what goes into sunxi tree?
<pgreco> I've been using this line to add an alternat compatible
<pgreco> fdtput -v -t s $i /soc/phy@1c13400 compatible "allwinner,sun8i-r40-usb-phy" "allwinner,sun50i-a64-usb-phy"
<pgreco> without rebuilding everythink
<pgreco> but maybe something like that could be added temporarily
<pgreco> for 4.15 and 4.16
<wens> pgreco: the maintainers
<wens> nope. they are not compatible. the R40 has two USB hosts, while the A64 only has one
<pgreco> Yes, I know they are not the same
<pgreco> just very similar...

<willmore> KotCzarny, is that an ereader?
<willmore> Might be on the unsoldered connector on the bottom right.
<KotCzarny> yeah, bookeen muse probably
<KotCzarny> that unsoldered connector looks like touch or similar thing
<willmore> I wouldn't think touch would be that far down the board--I'd expect it to be around the middle.

<xerpi> hi! I've been doing some reverse engineering to the PSVita OS, in particular I've written an OS module that performs a soft-reset and gets baremetal core execution at kernel level so I can run my payloads bypassing the OS completely
<xerpi> after quite a bit of work, I managed to get the display running and showing stuff, and I was wondering if the PSVita SoC display controller and DSI IP are completely custom and designed specifically for the PSVita or there are other ARM SoC with the same blocks
<xerpi> the main processor consists of an ARM Cortex-A9 MPCore with a SGX543MP4+ GPU
<xerpi> the display controller registers (planes and colorspace engine): https://wiki.henkaku.xyz/vita/IFTU_Registers
<xerpi> and the DSI block registers: https://wiki.henkaku.xyz/vita/DSI_Registers
<xerpi> Sony calls the display engine "IFTU" (no idea what it means, something like "i-(something) format transform util" maybe?)
<xerpi> a reverse-engineered code I wrote is here: https://github.com/xerpi/vita-baremetal-sample/blob/master/src/iftu.c
<xerpi> so basically I'm wondering is any of those register addresses is familiar to you so we can identify the block
<xerpi> here's a block diagram of the SoC: https://i.imgur.com/VG7Ig1l.png
<willmore> xerpi, wrong channel?
<xerpi> willmore, not really, why?
<willmore> This channel is for discussion of the development of the mainline linux kernel for Allwinner Sun-xi SoCs.
<xerpi> some allwinner SoCs have SGX GPUs so I thought this was the closest we could get to the psvita SoC
<willmore> Very little is known about the SGX GPUs, I'm afraid.
<xerpi> if there was a channel called "sunxi-reverse-engineering" I'd ask there
<willmore> :)
<xerpi> actually SGX is currently the part I care the less about atm
<willmore> You may get some helpful responses, I would just caution you to temper your expectations. Best of luck, though.
<xerpi> what I'd like to have more info is on the display controller/video i/f and DSI blocks
<Mr__Anderson> and more generically, here: http://linux-sunxi.org/SGX544MP
<willmore> There you go.
<xerpi> yeah seen that, thanks anyways
<willmore> Good luck.
<xerpi> does PowerVR also make the DSI or display controller blocks?
<xerpi> or do they limit themselves to the GPU?
<Mr__Anderson> GPU afaik
