I'm trying to find help with this issue: https://github.com/mripard/sunxi-mali/issues/45 It's about a Mali-400 loading the mali driver just fine, but not showing up as /dev/dri/card0 and I can't figure out whats wrong with the DRM. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction.

The proprietary Mali blob does not use DRM, instead it uses /dev/mali
<Drahtnod>
/dev/mali is indeed present. But how do i utilize that? I'd just like to render things on a headless system.

That works, but i need the extra performance. :/

there are the binary blobs for the OpenGL ES interface
<wens>
and you can get the fbdev variant that can render off screen
<Drahtnod>
cat /proc/device-tree/soc/gpu@1c40000/compatible says allwinner,sun8i-h3-maliarm,mali-400 so it should be ok

<paulk-leonov>
Drahtnod, so you want to use the gbm backend I guess?
<paulk-leonov>
even for headless, you need a KMS node for GEM memory reservation through GBM
<Drahtnod>
Yes or anything simila
<Drahtnod>
r
<Drahtnod>
GBM is not supported by the mali-blobs. I guess i have to use X11.

But to do that, i have to figure out how to utilize that /dev/mali first.

<paulk-leonov>
Drahtnod, the wayland blobs do support GBM
<paulk-leonov>
Drahtnod, you can't do headless X11 AFAIK
<paulk-leonov>
(I mean, I don't see how it could work)
<paulk-leonov>
Drahtnod, /dev/mali is used by the mali blobs, so I'm not sure what extra step you want to take with it

paulk-leonov, thank you about the GBM hint with the wayland driver. I checked it and it indeed lists EGL_KHR_platform_gbm when i query the extensions. I always thougt that the wayland blob is broken, becuase it does a segmentation fault if i try to get the default display via EGL.
<paulk-leonov>
yup, those blobs are used by Kodi to do GBM so I'm sure they do work :)
<Drahtnod>
Maybe the case that i dont have a "real" display is just poorly implemented.
<Drahtnod>
Great! Ill try to run a simple shader. Should be quick.
<paulk-leonov>
but AFAIK the wayland blob will try to open /dev/dri/card0 to do GBM mem reservation
nemunaire has quit [Ping timeout: 240 seconds]
<Drahtnod>
Huh? The mali-blob want's to use DRI, while the mali driver refuses to do so?

<paulk-leonov>
I doubt using /dev/mali for gbm_create_device will work
<paulk-leonov>
it is known to work with the KMS fd
<paulk-leonov>
though
<paulk-leonov>
because the blob will try to do GEM
<Drahtnod>
Where do i get the KMS fd?
<paulk-leonov>
Drahtnod, /dev/dri/card0
<Drahtnod>
Which is not present. :D
<paulk-leonov>
yes, I mentioned the steps to enable it earlier
<Drahtnod>
Sorry i missed that.
<paulk-leonov>
you need to add at least the de node as enabled in sun8i-h2-plus-orangepi-zero.dts like it's done on sunxi-libretech-all-h3-cc.dtsi rather
<paulk-leonov>
(actually the de node should be sufficient)
<Drahtnod>
Ok, understood, i'll try.
<Drahtnod>
Thank you. :)
