tllim: it's been a while since you pushed me to once again do the legwork to repeat my year-old results, do you have any update on allwinner resolving their GPL violations?
<tllim>
wink from Allwinner has already update few weeks ago on your H6's GPL violation finding. You can check on the wiki log
<tllim>
and he is preparing a "clean" H6 SDK release.
<tllim>
1am here, needs to get my sleep now
<libv>
i am not immediately seeing any entries in our linux-sunxi RecentChanges
<KotCzarny>
it was few months ago
<KotCzarny>
check changelog by the user maybe?

i just scrolled through recent changes all the way back to april
<libv>
"Legacy Codes for old platform, not for H6, should be removed in next release SDK. " is not an acceptable answer, where is the code for the "legacy" platforms.
<KotCzarny>
this is changlog for H6
<KotCzarny>
so for H6 it is acceptable i guess
<libv>
and i do not buy some of those statements, especially seeing as to how they are still handing these blobs to their customers
<libv>
no it is not, it is still shipped as part of gpled software

i wouldnt mind legacy nand driver added to mainline uboot at least, would ease getting things from/to nand
<libv>
now, if there is proof that there are changes between the binaries there and the source code produced in 2015, then allwinner has violated the gpl again and their statement there was bogus
<KotCzarny>
few years ago i had to revive broken e-reader by repeatedly booting legacy and mainline uboots, one had access to nand, other knew how to write to ext4
<libv>
to prove that, i would just have to compare the blobs between now and then, and see whether there is any difference, and there will be
<libv>
KotCzarny: also, back in 2014/2015, i went and extracted nand chip info from a blob to use in the source
<KotCzarny>
i suspect that addon board is faster than rpi ;)
<MoeIcenowy>
should be faster than rpi1 ;-)

All Rpi before the 3 for sure. Maybe even the 3 if the binaries are old v6 ones and don't use v7/v8 features or optimize instruction for them.

is Pinebook wifi supposed to work on current mainline?
<megi>
looks like it is
<kilobyte>
and 4.19?
<megi>
no idea
<megi>
anyway, I see rtl8723cs node, but it doesn't have compatible set, so maybe it's not supposed to work yet

driver is out of tree
<anarsoul>
and since its literally piece of sh*t I doubt it'll be included in mainline
<anarsoul>
all drivers coming from realtek are of that quality
<anarsoul>
(I hope someone from realtek will read it)
<kilobyte>
yeah
<anarsoul>
rtl8723bs got into staging since it was rather popular
<anarsoul>
proper way would be to extend rtl8xxxu driver to support SDIO
<anarsoul>
but I guess no one is interested in this project
