ullbeking: well when someone says PCIe I usually go to thinking of ESPRESSOBin to start with, but that SBC is more so (imo) for network or NAS storage platforms, so not sure that would match you needs. That said, it does have a fully working Mini-PCIe port and I use one in 'production' as a NAS with a 4 port SATA card in that mini-pcie slot. You needs though sound more like the NanoPi
<[TheBug]>
M4 may be a better fit.. but as I am still not 100% sure I understand what your wanting to do... this is only a guess.
<ullbeking>
[TheBug]: i hear very good thins about Espressobin too... but they are Solid Run and SR have a lot of excellent offerings
<ullbeking>
I'd love to try the i.MX series
<ullbeking>
And SiFive/HiFive are obvious choices, no?

Oh whey, I can try H3Droid now!
<ullbeking>
[TheBug]: the first thing i noticed is that first i though you had a series of websites for each component, but then i realized all these product are part of H3Droid and they are all in the same download

ullbeking: ESPRESSOBin is Globalscale not SolidRun, 100% different company, however, the other company which does utilize that same Marvell chipset on the ESPRESSOBin is SolidRun, other than those two there are not many making consumer focused Marvell based SoC boards.
<[TheBug]>
(other than sold in pre-manufatured NAS units from companies like Synology, etc)
<[TheBug]>
ullbeking: Yes, H3resc is part of H3Droid and is actually what sets H3Droid apart from using just an standard Android install -- H3droid provides you access to all the underlying system and allows you to customize it, install your prefered touch screen and peripherals and have full access to GPIO from Android via shel, etc
<[TheBug]>
while most whom use it will just see 'Android' it's actualy alot more than that
<[TheBug]>
more of a custom bios + developer friendly version of Android
<ullbeking>
H3resc looks like an amazing tool, can it be used in other, non-H3droid contexts too?
<ullbeking>
like a rescue disk?

At the moment i use a a20 board with legacy kernel on a vga monitor. Since the legacy kernel does not receive any further security updates i really want to switch to the mainline kernel, but the wiki says there is no vga support in there. As far as i know rgb and vga are very similar, so i wonder why there is no vga support yet. How hard is it to implement and why no one has done it already?

<ullbeking>
good evening all
<ullbeking>
i'm planning to install h3droid on my opi +2e tonight. this is my favorite sbc, in fact, i'm in love with it. however, i would like to try a different opi too, aside from a few other h3/h5 models i already have.
<ullbeking>
what is the "best" OPi that I can get, in terms of CPU power....
<ullbeking>
memroy
<ullbeking>
memory*
<ullbeking>
well designed onboard components (pref. no USB-SATA convcerters, please)
<sunshavi>
ullbeking: is it a poll?
<ullbeking>
no
<ullbeking>
i want to buy on
<sunshavi>
:)
<ullbeking>
one*
<ullbeking>
i want to compare my OPi Zero to the latest and greatest OPi
<sunshavi>
it depends on the use case for mainline H3 is hot stuff
<ullbeking>
you're running raw openbox and no DE. and the system boots right in to your X11 display manager?
<sunshavi>
right
<sunshavi>
i have 4 year with this device as my main worksation
<ullbeking>
cool
<sunshavi>
two years with mainilne
<ullbeking>
i nearly bought an 8-Pi cluster made of OPi +2E's, until the designed told me that one of the nodes is broken.
<ullbeking>
i didn't have the energy or resources to find the broken one, even though he offered me a discount (it was an insufficient discount for the amount of time it would take)
<ullbeking>
so i'll just biuild my own
<sunshavi>
nice
<ullbeking>
sunshavi: do you know if there is a "standard" suite of load tests and stress tests for H3 or OPi +2E or OPi in general? kinda like memtest86+?
<sunshavi>
difficult to say
<ullbeking>
it's fine, i'll ask around
<sunshavi>
I could only tell You that I stress opi+2e every day without any issue. But processor on max o f 1 Ghz
<ullbeking>
the OPi community is solid. somebody will know.
<sunshavi>
of course
<ullbeking>
the OPi community is why I use it instead of RPi
<ullbeking>
ok, i'm going shopping now!
<ullbeking>
cya!
<sunshavi>
lol. Just let me know about the shipping price. :)
<ullbeking>
heh heh heh
<quakquak>
If you know something regarding my question, just post. I will check the irc log later.
