any idea why SPI write of more than 63 bytes fails on A20 (kernel error is m25p80 spi0.0: While writing 256 bytes written 63 bytes) with mainline kernel?

<DigitalMan1983>
Have you used a touch screen with it at all?
<jo0nas>
no - Olimex gave me some touch screens a few years ago at FOSDEM, but I have no experience setting them up
<jo0nas>
if there is something you want me to try then help guide me
<DigitalMan1983>
so the type of display is a 4.3" 24-bit RGB TFT panel
<jo0nas>
was that a question, or are you telling me what hardware you got?
<DigitalMan1983>
the latter
<DigitalMan1983>
I am also using a driver board that Olimex makes for that display and the A64
<DigitalMan1983>
which is basically a pass-through but it incorporates a touch screen controller that goes to 2 i2c pins on the A64 as well as a backlight power supply
<jo0nas>
I got some screen with a board attached named MOD-LCD7-TS
<jo0nas>
ah, the whole thing is called A13-LCD7"-TS
<jo0nas>
...which smells of being tied to the old A13 Soc, I guess
<DigitalMan1983>
yes, I believe you have what I have for a display but the A13 configuration
<jo0nas>
the other one they gave me is called A13-LCD4.3"
<jo0nas>
I guess so, yes
<DigitalMan1983>
which I believe has the touch panel going straight to the SOM rather than through a touch screen controller like the one for the A64
<jo0nas>
...and an A13-OLinuXino-MICRO
<jo0nas>
so no, seems I have no touchscreen relevant for A64 boards

OK, thanks for checking
<Jin^eLD>
hi.. I found a cubietruck in my drawer and figured I'd try it out, but somehow I have a bit fo a hard time to get started; I am using meta-sunxi with Yocto to build my stuff, but I am not sure what layout a nand flashable image should have?
<Jin^eLD>
and also what the preferred way of actually flasshing it is?
<Jin^eLD>
ok... so probably a better way would be to plug in some ssd
<KotCzarny>
fancy that, almost emmc
<KotCzarny>
:)
<Jin^eLD>
and where does u-boot live?
<KotCzarny>
depends
<KotCzarny>
but most allwinner devices have sdcard as a highest boot priority
<Jin^eLD>
well.. I guess I want to get rid of the sdcard if I go for sata ssd
<Jin^eLD>
but then I understan that nand is not that well supported with the mainline versions?
<KotCzarny>
if that tsop behaves like a sdcard
<KotCzarny>
then uboot can be places on it and load/boot from ssd
<Jin^eLD>
or could I dump u-boot into nand to have it permanently on the board?
<Jin^eLD>
aha hm
<Jin^eLD>
well I guess I'd have to try if it prefers SATA if nothing else is plugged in
<Jin^eLD>
where does the FEL recovery flash to, nand?
<KotCzarny>
afair sata/usb isnt in the boot list
<KotCzarny>
so you have to load uboot first
[MoonWalk] has quit [Quit: oO']
<Jin^eLD>
more reason to have u-boot inside the board...
<KotCzarny>
if your board has sdcard just try some premade distro
<Jin^eLD>
well that would only show that the board works in general...
<Jin^eLD>
I'd like to use it as the "brain" unit for klillpper 3d printing firmware
<KotCzarny>
but then you can do whatever you like to that embedded 'sdcard'
<KotCzarny>
bit easier to experiment
<KotCzarny>
and later you can simply clone sdcard to the embedded one
<Jin^eLD>
well, but I don't have am embedded sdcard, do I? I have the nand version?
<Jin^eLD>
getting a bit confused about those two
<KotCzarny>
you have pasted the article about that 2017's tsd version
<Jin^eLD>
yes
<KotCzarny>
so i assumed you have one?
<Jin^eLD>
well I seem to have the board with the NAND hynix chip
<Jin^eLD>
but that's not emmc... which I thought is what you were referring to by "embedded sdcard"?
<Jin^eLD>
or did I misunderstand everything completely? :)
<KotCzarny>
CT-Nand and CT-TSD version boards are all the same except the different storage medium chips. The next figures show the differences between them. Nand Flash is printed with "SK Hynix" mark, and TSD has "FORESEE" mark.
<KotCzarny>
yeah, seems like a nand version
<Jin^eLD>
right... so is there any info on how to update u-boot on the nand version? or will dd if=/dev/zero of=${card} bs=1k count=1023 seek=1 do the trick, provied that I get some sort of /dev/nand or whatever when booted?
<Jin^eLD>
ha, already had it open :) but did not dive in it yet... because there was one page for legacy nand stuff and one page for mainline nand stuff which is apparently not stable

I don't quite get it, is there a "LiveSuit" command line replacement of some sort? these .img files of those ancient nand-ready distros that they have seem to be in some special format
<Jin^eLD>
the cubietruck seems to be a major pita
<Jin^eLD>
at least when it comes to booting something that would be able to access nand
