<sb0>
wow, I received 1U enclosures from hammond and from a chinese supplier and the difference is huge
<sb0>
first the chinese stuff is 1/6 the price
<sb0>
and it doesn't have any of the obnoxious design antifeatures that the hammond enclosure has
<sb0>
the hammond thing is ugly, they just use screws, bend metal sheets, and put fasteners anywhere they please without any concern for aesthetics or ease of use
<sb0>
for example they bend the top and bottom sheet near the edges to make it easier for them to assemble, and if you want to attach a PCB near the edge (as you usually do to take the force from the connectors) then you have to compensate for that bend
<sb0>
the chinese enclosure doesn't do this shit
<sb0>
also all the front panel screws are inside instead of being placed in ugly locations and contributing (with the fastener inside) to wasting front panel space
<sb0>
like hammond did
<sb0>
years ago I tried to use a hammond die-cast aluminum enclosure and the experience was similar
<sb0>
draft angle to make it easier for them to remove from the mold, and hard for you to place any connector on the sides
<sb0>
reinforcements smack in the middle of every side, so you cannot mount anything there - connector or PCB
