<sb0> whitequark: "they both run HDL processes first and bench processes second"?
<whitequark> by HDL processes I mean whatever logic you add to m.d.sync
<sb0> this shouldn't matter with the VHDL-style "read before edge/write after edge" design, no?
<sb0> yeah but the behavior should stay the same if you swap those
<whitequark> this doesn't matter as long as no two processes set the same signal
<whitequark> but sometimes you set registers in a testbench manually
<whitequark> while they are also driven by some HDL logic
<sb0> ah, right
<sb0> but there's also the same issue between any two processes (logic or simulation), if they write to the same signal
<sb0> the final value is set by the last process that wrote it
<whitequark> correct
<whitequark> so migen.sim and nmigen.sim always run hdl processes before generator processes
<whitequark> *nmigen.back.pysim
<whitequark> but nmigen.back.pysim2 (the rewrite i'm working on) doesn't make the distinction
<sb0> yeah but that's not I did to support overwriting logic signals in the bench. i never thought about supporting that
<sb0> *not something
<whitequark> I see

<sb0> rjo: are you happy with the anel network-controlled power switches? is the firmware OK or does it crash etc.?

<rjo> Hasn't crashed but is idiotic. You talk to it via broadcast udp. There are cheaper things out there. The sonoff stuff is somewhat better.

<Stormwind_mobile> Rjo: sb0: what is the context? I'm dealing with one of those anel devices these days.

<rjo> we have one in opticlock. unremarkable from my perspective.
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> @rjo are those sonoff switches all wifi or do they do wired ones as well?
<rjo> i have only seen wifi ones. but you can wire up the i2c bus and make it wired, i guess.

<rjo> hartytp: and there is obviously greg's collection of devices for this. all nicely wired.
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> oh? I didn't know about Greg's collection of devices. which repos?

<rjo> his home automation stuff
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> oh, nice
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> well, having said that, the applications I have in mind are may be better served using a managed PoE switch that allows remotely disabling individual channels
<rjo> hartytp: yes. for lab use ethernet+poe is nice. that's why I lobbied for PoE way back
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> yes
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> but, splitters still do decent job for other things that aren't PoE
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> btw, I'm still really pleasantly surprised how few EMI issues we've had with the PoE even without CM filtering
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <sb10q> Mostly want to allow power control of zc706, uTCA rack (note: irony), etc.
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <sb10q> PoE isn't an option thers
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> btw for Kasli-Zynq I'm still somewhat keen to have an RJ45 and copy the ethernet from the ZC706
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> (e.g. allows us to have an ethernet port of satellites without loosing an SFP cage etc)
<mtrbot-ml> [mattermost] <hartytp> so we could even stick PoE on that if we wanted to
