<Joerg-Neo900> about OpenHardware: https://www.oshwa.org/definition/ that's great, however I like to argue against 3. Necessary Software - in my book open hardware only is open with "a) The interfaces are sufficiently documented..." the alternative "b) The necessary software..." is no substitute for a)
<Joerg-Neo900> actually my take on Open Hardware has a different focus, not about allowing other manufacturers to produce the hardware but allowing owners of the hardware to evaluate, audit, modify and fix it to their liking. This is different from Open *Source* HardWare regarding the intended purpose
<Joerg-Neo900> also the OSHWA licence doesn't cover stuff like Tivoization, a nogo in my book for anything I'd consider Open Hardware
<Joerg-Neo900> also the OSHWA licence doesn't cover stuff like Tivoization, a nogo in my book for anything I'd consider Open Hardware
<Joerg-Neo900> https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/endorsement/criteria FSF Respects_Your_Freedom (RYF) OTOH has focus only on software aspects despite claiming they are hardware centric, so they would be happy with GPL_v3 code
<Joerg-Neo900> no schematics, no "interfaces are sufficiently documented"
<Joerg-Neo900> it's just GPL poorly adapted for hardware
<Joerg-Neo900> actually RYF is just the FOSS equivalent to "runs Windows, (C) Microsoft" stickers on hardware
knttl has joined #neo900
<Joerg-Neo900> neither of both licenses ensures you could maintain a secure OS of your choice on the hw platform - OSHWA since the hw might be tivoized and still get approved, RYF since it doesn't care at all about hw platform level vulnerabilities

<Joerg-Neo900> actually in http://certificate.oshwa.org/ they augment the definition by >>Third-party components such as chips must have fully accessible and shareable datasheets for hardware to be considered open source<< which pretty much covers my concerns about "a)"
<Joerg-Neo900> remains tivoization which I didn't find mentioned anywhere

<houkime> Extra bob part that is not in sch and i have no idea what is it ref"P2101" val"fx6-20"
<houkime> *what it is
<houkime> looks and marked like a connector and sure some connector is needed on bob
<houkime> but looks like either it is metacollins's choice or sch was updated.
<Joerg-Neo900> legacy
<Joerg-Neo900> BoB is on p.17 now
<Joerg-Neo900> so any BoB connector is P17xx
<Joerg-Neo900> not P21xx
<houkime> ok, so I need to replace it with a modern one without physical port coordinate moving. ok.
<Joerg-Neo900> I'd guess it's now two connectors: CON1701, CON1702
<houkime> that adds a little challenge. ok
<Joerg-Neo900> hm?
<Joerg-Neo900> the old components got imported to PCB, from V1. Then were supposed to all get cleaned up, except the fixed ones
<Joerg-Neo900> prolly P2101 still is there and needs to get replaced by CON1701, CON1702
<Joerg-Neo900> you should use P2101 (and its counterpart on LOWER) as reference point for placing the CON1701, CON1702 (and CON1601, CON1602) so BoB is in right position
<houkime> that i uderstood and indicated as a challenge
<Joerg-Neo900> aaah :-)
<Joerg-Neo900> you seen the reference note in schematics, right?
<Joerg-Neo900> >>Defined in the Hackerbus specification, http://neo900.org/stuff/papers/hb.pdf<<
<houkime> yep, was going right to it.

<houkime> checked out hackerbus pdf.
<houkime> and there is a major geometrical error in metacollin's layout.
<houkime> you see, if you look at http://neo900.org/stuff/werner/springs/
<houkime> and then compare it to hb.pdf
<houkime> then you understand that in hb.pdf bob outline is flipped. But it is ok if the layers are flipped too
<houkime> then it is just a 3d rotation transform
<houkime> BUT
<houkime> the thing is that on metacollin's layout you see this bob outline just 2d rotated with wrong layers.

<houkime> so what he did compared to hb. is 2d rotated and layers flipped
himcesjf_ is now known as him-cesjf

<houkime> which results in bob otline mirrored around x-axis.
<houkime> please try to do geometry check yourself. It's kinda hard to explain.
<houkime> in ideal when you place bob layout below LOWER layout they should either be like in http://neo900.org/stuff/papers/hb.pdf<< (which is a see-through view)
<houkime> OR bob should be flipped WITH ALL LAYERS
<houkime> but in metacollin's stuff board is flipped, but LAYERS ARE NOT.
<houkime> *they should be like in http://neo900.org/stuff/werner/springs/
<houkime> sorry, wrong link
<houkime> from the development perspective, it is better it to be like in see-through, so the layers are correct and you can just add a ghost bob outline around camera.
<houkime> but current bob geometry in pcb layout is not true and can't be ghosted.

<houkime> joerg-neo900: rechecked. Still same opinion. Either layering or mirroring is wrong. My choice is to correct mirroring cause this way it will be much easier to work with.
<enyc> houkime: joy!
