Ocaml Manual says really_input_string is added in 4.02.0 but I can't find an entry in changelog. I want to read the discussion on that PR. Can somebody tell me how to find or give the link?

yminsky: FWIW getting and compiling ocaml 4.04, and compiling core for 4.04 solved the issue

Hmm, Yeah, this does seem like a problem with xmlm. xmlm's own test utility has the same issue.

<milodavis>
Is there a way to use core or batteries with Eliom? I'm getting an exception from JavaScript if I incude either one due to missing primitives
<flux>
milodavis, I think core is not javascript-compatible, however core_kernel is. though you may work your way through by providing those primitives (as dummy functions) and by ensuring that you don't need that code
<milodavis>
I tried that and got the same errors
<milodavis>
(core_kernel)
<flux>
I'm not 100% on the syntax but something like external foo : sign -> ature = "javascript_function"
<reynir>
what about base?
<milodavis>
base?
<flux>
ah, was it base then? I think I mixed them up
<flux>
you may find from google that this used to be a used to be a much bigger issue some time ago, but the workaround as far as I know is still valid
<Drup>
milodavis: for a javascript-compatible extension of the stdlib, I suggest containers
<Drup>
batteries doesn't work well, core doesn't work, core_kernel is too big and will bloat your js file ridiculously
<reynir>
flux: yea, I mix them up too
<flux>
milodavis, do you btw understand the unerlying problem here?
<milodavis>
I think so, but I'm not sure. I've been assuming that something is depending on native code which is causing the initialization sequence to fail
<milodavis>
It looks like base is the right answer here
<flux>
ok, so the point is that those libraries have bits written in C
<Drup>
for batteries, there are other issues as well
<flux>
and of course js_of_ocaml can do nothing but expect you to have matching javascript implementations
<Drup>
really, use containers, it's a good libraries and it's very well adapted to how js_of_ocaml works
<flux>
and the names of those functions to the runtime system are indicated with the "external" definitions
