<Blue_flame> When did he say he wanted to leave? I see no msg from his side.
<Regenaxer> Yeah, not here. He wrote it to me in DeltaChat
<Blue_flame> Specific reason as to why?
<Regenaxer> Yes, he said he has a new job which gives him less time :(
<Regenaxer> So it looks like he won't show up any more :(
<Blue_flame> Due to work, okay. He can try to squeeze some time once a while. But if he says he can't then must be very busy.
<Regenaxer> T. He stays in the mailing list he said
<mtsd> tankf33der, wish you all the best and good luck at your new job. We'll miss you here though!
<Regenaxer> Hi mtsd! :)
<Regenaxer> Perhaps he reads the irc log :)
<mtsd> hi Regenaxer! Yes, I hoped for that :)

<rick42> hi peeps
<Regenaxer> Halloo rick42 o/
<rick42> tankf33der is a very important to, even an integral part of, the community.
<rick42> Regenaxer: \o
<Regenaxer> yes, he contributed a big lot
<rick42> i hope that he will still be around, even if less frequently
<rick42> T
<Regenaxer> He likes abrupt cuts :) A few years ago he quit twitter suddenly
<rick42> i know how he feels about work. I'm on travel and working MORE. lol
<Regenaxer> :)
<rick42> Regenaxer: he knows want he wants :)
<Regenaxer> Exactly
<Regenaxer> Similarly, I'll quit WhatsApp in the not too far future
<Regenaxer> Switch to DeltaChat ;)
<rick42> ok
<rick42> (I don't know either :)
<rick42> i know what they are but never used them
<Regenaxer> (though beneroth dislikes it)
<Regenaxer> Seems a good cimpromize
<Regenaxer> What I like is: With DeltaChat *I* am in control
<rick42> oh ok
<Regenaxer> No proprietary server, my contacts stay here, I can verify the encryption, and I can backup all data
<rick42> end-to-end encryption?
<Regenaxer> I think it is no problem that it is based e-mails
<Regenaxer> it is just the medium
<rick42> ok
<Regenaxer> yes, end-to-end
<rick42> yeah i have no problem with emails
<rick42> actually prefer them
<Regenaxer> metadata are visible
<rick42> ofc
<Regenaxer> but at least not in one central place
<rick42> because email :)
<Regenaxer> T ☺
<clacke_movim> E-mail, the original federated social network on the internet, older than TCP/IP, even.
<Regenaxer> Right
<clacke_movim> Alas, I am too young to have ever used bangpaths
<Regenaxer> bangpath?
<clacke_movim> user!mynearestserver!thatserversneighbor!usersserver rather than user@usersserver
<Regenaxer> In fact, I used email first in 1987 or so, via a packet-switching network (DATEX-P in Germany)
<Regenaxer> ah
<Regenaxer> I used it directly on a remote Unix machine
<Regenaxer> $ mail <user>
<Regenaxer> a machine in Japan while I was in Germany
<clacke_movim> I have sent one message over the Swedish corporate X.25-carried network Memo once
<Regenaxer> Costed about 0.5 Deutsche Mark per minute
<Regenaxer> yes, X.25 was the term
<clacke_movim> But it doesn't really count, it was in 1998 and the company had really switched to email already
<clacke_movim> Memo had a user directory, so I could look my sister's Memo address at another company
<clacke_movim> And in 1998 some people were still complaining that email didn't.have some of the neat features in Memo like reliable retraction of a message sent by mistake or in error
<Regenaxer> :)
<Regenaxer> The oldest mail I have in my folder:
<Regenaxer> From mubo.augusta.de!BBS.FORTH-eV.de!dan Sun Jul 17 09:34:47 1994
<Regenaxer> Return-Path: <mbo.augusta.de!BBS.FORTH-eV.de!dan
<clacke_movim> Ooh!
<clacke_movim> Bangpaths!
<clacke_movim> I have compressed backups of PINE folders on a disk somewhere in another timezone
<Regenaxer> yeah, did not remember
<Regenaxer> BBS
<clacke_movim> Fidonet?
<Regenaxer> Sorted by timestamp, the tail of my mail folder:
<Regenaxer> 1995-08-13 10:21:54 werner (9)
<Regenaxer> 1995-07-18 21:29:55 yamamoto (5)
<Regenaxer> 1995-07-08 18:26:18 joerg (3)
<Regenaxer> 1995-03-18 21:05:31 enzens (26)
<Regenaxer> 1995-03-06 21:55:28 anton (48)
<Regenaxer> 1994-11-26 14:51:06 golo (4)
<Regenaxer> 1994-07-18 10:30:31 daniel (3)
<clacke_movim> Or real UUCP
<Regenaxer> Yes, uucp
<Regenaxer> via telephone
<Regenaxer> It is the same folder I still use today
<Regenaxer> mbox format
<clacke_movim> Very cool
<Regenaxer> I keep *all* timestamps :)
<Regenaxer> Thats why I dislike git
<clacke_movim> No, my email legacy is spread all over the place
<Regenaxer> :N
<Regenaxer> :)
<Regenaxer> It is only 904 files, not much for 25 years
<clacke_movim> Pine here, Thunderbird there, since uni most of it is in two places though, google and uni computer club
<Regenaxer> ok
<Regenaxer> I used only 'mail' half of the time, later 'mutt'
<Regenaxer> or 'mailx'
<Regenaxer> ha, and now DeltaChat :)
<Regenaxer> my third client
<clacke_movim> Oh yeah, mutt too for some time
<Regenaxer> but kind of separate
<Regenaxer> mutt is best
<Regenaxer> It does more than any other client
<Regenaxer> e.g. "bounce" a message
<Regenaxer> and it runs here in Termux
<clacke_movim> I will go to mailpile at some point
<Regenaxer> aka mail server?
<clacke_movim> Yeah, self-hosted webmail
<clacke_movim> Not backend, you still need postfix or something
<Regenaxer> ok
<clacke_movim> Mailinabox maybe
<clacke_movim> Or I'll look at yunohost or freedombox or similar
<clacke_movim> Minimize headaches
<Regenaxer> So it can be used with mutt as client?
<clacke_movim> mailpile is a client, like squirrelmail, horde or mailcube or whatever its name was
<Regenaxer> oh, ok
<clacke_movim> talks to your mbox folder, maildir, IMAP or whatever
<clacke_movim> If I would start using Delta in earnest I'd set up a separate account for IM
<clacke_movim> Not use my main email account
<Regenaxer> Same here
<clacke_movim> I have used it a bit on my normal email account, and it's kind of fun
<Regenaxer> I use POP3, so it would conflict with Delta's IMAP
<clacke_movim> Pretty neat when people send image attachments and it really looks just like had they forwarded them over WhatsApp
<Regenaxer> But most of my contacts simply use their normal mail account also for Delta
<Regenaxer> yeah
<clacke_movim> But the literally hundreds of "this user mailed you, do you want to see their conversation in Delta?" gets old real quick
<Regenaxer> They don't show up
<Regenaxer> I think the subject must start with "Chat"
<Regenaxer> or "Chat: "
<Regenaxer> At least it seems to work well
<Regenaxer> didn't find any docs on that though
<Regenaxer> Perhaps in the forum
<Regenaxer> I just noticed cause some people sent to my normal address by mistake
<clacke_movim> Maybe they changed
<clacke_movim> It was a while ago
<clacke_movim> I definitely saw my normal emails
<clacke_movim> And it was a neat preview at times, like with the pictures attached
<Regenaxer> T, changes a lot still
