DocScrutinizer05 changed the topic of #qi-hardware to: Copyleft hardware - http://qi-hardware.com | hardware hackers join here to discuss Ben NanoNote, atben / atusb 802.15.4 wireless, and other community driven hw projects | public logging at http://en.qi-hardware.com/irclogs and http://irclog.whitequark.org/qi-hardware
<whitequark> that's way more complex, isn't it?
<wpwrak> i could probably make one at home :)
<whitequark> that's you
<wpwrak> but yes, an stm32f2-based system would be easier to make at home
<whitequark> you can do BGA for breakfast :)
<wpwrak> naw, i don't do BGA :) that's xiangfu's speciality
<whitequark> I mean, I'm pretty sure I do not want to debug glitches in a parallel bus if I can avoid it
<whitequark> and laying out SDRAM when you only know how to work with dumb SoCs is just asking for trouble
<wpwrak> oh, you try not to have that sort of problems :) if you screw up, you're screwed ...
<whitequark> exactly
<wpwrak> but this sort of things should still be doable by following design rules. it's not the sort of witchcraft you have with RF.
<whitequark> yeah
<whitequark> now that I think about it. so do you know decent embedded GUIs for linux?
<whitequark> and I mean not GTK, QT or even E17n
<whitequark> er, englightenment? forget how it was contracted
<whitequark> hm, you can probably build motif.
<wpwrak> i use gtk and sdl. gtk for "GUI-y stuff", SDL (with SDL_gfx) if i basically just need a canvas
<whitequark> well, SDL abstracts the underlying platform down to a framebuffer :)
<wpwrak> there's also some toolkit that sits on top of SDL. looks pretty fancy. lemme see if i can find it ...
<whitequark> so you won't need it on stm32 'cause it already has just a framebuffer
<wpwrak> haven't used that yet, though
<whitequark> I imagine that would be easily ported to the stm chip.
<whitequark> it's even 32-bit, to make things easier.
<wpwrak> SDL_gfx also provides some useful primitives. but yes, you could implement them on your own in a week or so
<wpwrak> "e" also has a bunch of infrastructure libraries
<whitequark> e?
<whitequark> did they intentionally make it ungoogleable?
<wpwrak> motif was considered an obese monster. so by today's standards, it's probably extremely light-weight ;-)
<whitequark> that's what I thought
<whitequark> but it needs X
<whitequark> and, well
<whitequark> nothing needs more X.
<wpwrak> e = the enlightenment clan of libraries
<whitequark> ah, right
<wpwrak> see the stack here: http://www.enlightenment.org/
<whitequark> yeah. I imagine it's not easily ported, ie, you'd only want to use that over Linux
<whitequark> they do claim that their library works on some quite underpowered devices though
<wpwrak> yeah, 200 MHz ... but 16, maybe 8 MB of RAM :)
