paulproteus: I wanted clone this grain for a while. ;) The question is how do have permissions set for it? Some apps, allowing people to clone it has no security risk. Other apps, it might.
<paulproteus>
I would say it works like backup+restore, so (for now) only available to the owner.
<ocdtrekkie>
But I mean, particularly for clone, I could see a lot of use in allowing others to do so. "I have a public document, others may wish to save a copy or modify it" etc.
<paulproteus>
Yeah, I agree. I figure the app should have to indicate that that's safe, somehow.
<ocdtrekkie>
And my friend really wants to buy a shirt. Will you have shirt-buying options available?
<paulproteus>
Perhaps one of the permission roles (randomly thinking here) is equal to "Create backup", which allows any user to "Create backup" which means that any user can do "Clone" as well, since clone =approx= create backup.
<ocdtrekkie>
Mhmm
<paulproteus>
Hypothetically the app could export a filtered version of its /var to the backup process if it's not being done by the user, or something.
<paulproteus>
Doubly so since the clone is presumably owned by the user that did the clone operation.

Regarding the shell 'home view', it would be nice to be able to organize one's grains using labels/tags in addition to the by-app organization. Use case: I might have a Gitlab repo, a notebook and an Ethercalc grain and some to do lists related to one project, then it would be useful to show all grains related to that project
<erikoeurch>
Or if I have dozens of Paperwork grains, it would be useful to organize them by labels so I don't have to go through the list every time I'm looking for one of them
