<axx_>
simonv3: does TTRSS still have that weird position on SSLv3?
<axx_>
I remember reading an answer by the main dev that just brushed off someone complaining that TTRSS wouldn't work with self-signed certs + SSLv3 disabled
<axx_>
anyway…

Howdy chowmeined
<asheesh>
Welcome to #sandstorm. Let me know if you have any questions, or feel free to just hang out.
<asheesh>
I'm one of the core team members so I often can point you in the right direction.
<asheesh>
: )
<chowmeined>
hello asheesh, is this a suitable place to ask questions about cap'n proto?
<zarvox>
definitely!
<chowmeined>
Well, I'm wondering if I can use the RPC functionality in a client/server system where the server will sometimes push messages down to a client that is maintaining a tcp connection. Is this kind of server initiated RPC possible with capn proto's RPC?

<pod>
thinking out loud - seltzer CRM for hackerspaces could be a "killer app" to get hackerspaces invested in sandstorm.
<pod>
must take a look at other PHP apps that are packaged to see how hard this would be to package
<asheesh>
chowmeined: Absolutely. Cap'n Proto RPC is bidirectional.
<asheesh>
Similarly Amazon Payments, but I don't know the details.
<pod>
ah yes forgot that it does AMZN and PayPal payments.
<pod>
honestly I'd probably clone the pattern to extend it to use Stripe
<pod>
which I *do* understand and have used :)
<asheesh>
Great (-:
<pod>
plus I know they're non-profit / hackerspace friendly
<asheesh>
Appps sometimes want to do an outbound HTTP call to check the validity of payment info they receive.
<pod>
mostly anytime I've looked at it before I've said "ugh I don't want to run / maintain this PHP application in production"
<pod>
but
<pod>
sandstorm changes that :)
<asheesh>
A v1 hack package would have to use Sandstorm's very limited ability to do outbound HTTP to make those method calls, probably.
<pod>
asheesh: aye the Stripe flow is that the client does some JS magic to exchange CC details for a token, and the server uses said token to identify the card to charge
<asheesh>
A v2 package could integrate with a "Stripe driver" so that it's able to communicate precisely with Stripe and nothing else.
<asheesh>
Right, so then yeah, I guess it wants to talk to Stripe and so that might be hard, but not impossible.
<asheesh>
If you decide you want to work on this, I would work with you on making sure the Stripe stuff could work properly, even if that means me submitting patches to your app to do that.
<asheesh>
BTW it's amazing that this thing has been around so long. That gives me some hope.
<asheesh>
As in, that it won't vanish tomorrow.
<pod>
it's in a somewhat stable but not actively maintained state
<pod>
the author I believe tried to crowdfund some funds for dev time but came up short
<pod>
so I think it's in a stable holding pattern instead of getting active feature development
<pod>
asheesh: it's something I'd like for noisebridge so I'm motivated to at least attempt this :)
<pod>
I shall keep you posted on any progress :)
<asheesh>
Great. I'm A-OK with showing up to debug, etc, like we did earlier with Debian packaging.
<pod>
great! might take you up on that when I'm back in SF - I'm in DUB until June 1st
<asheesh>
Nice. I can also reserve time to be extra-available or do video-chat, fwiw, to remote-debug things.
