<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> yeah there is no prevention against spam/dos. pretty much like the real internet
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> i just chose the potential danger of dos attacks vs having a central authority controlling the distribution of the currency required to make transaction.
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> i mean the entire development of blockchain goes towards finding a way to make it work without central authority that is ultimately driven by some dudes personal financial interests
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> @buhrmi: do you have horizon or something like it running on your network yet? I'm upgrading my poker and need to point it
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> no horizon...
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> no api to work from?
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> nope, unless u spin up your own node ^^
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> you want to run mss-websocket as a api?
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> not really, no...
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> it should also serve that function. running nodes on my end is unstable
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> for the user it takes a bit too long to start up
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> you would also only need the ruby side of the horizon whatever that's now called
u77 has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> I just don't wanna be the one responsible for running horizon
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> got other stuff to do lol
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> understood, for now I'm just going to default it to stellar horizion testnet. if the players want stability they will have to manually point it at horizon live. some day if I ever get an vps account, I'll see if I can run two cores and two mss-servers at the same time so I can have your open-core as an option.

<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> why would u point it to testnet as default
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> were else could I point it? at stellar live? where would new players go to get funds to start a new account at stellar live? My present system auto creates funded accounts for new players that hooks to there nickname in pokerth. When stellar live does become active you want me to pay for all the players new accounts on stellar live?

<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> mhh... yeah... no...
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> need a horizon server pointed at open core :O
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> yes and who's going to provide that?
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> dunno ....
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> well when one is available I'll provide that as an option or even a default
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> but I'm almost done with the upgrade I should release it by tomaro
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> maybe accept donations / venture capital funding
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> (same thing?)
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> I already provide a donation address on github for pokerth, if they fund it I'll spend it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> until then it is what it is
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> i mean fiat currency USD etc
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> any big VCs in here? lol
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> BTC is fine, you can buy VPS with bitcoin, I would assume with STR or most any none fiat will work but they can also paypal me
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> what legal entity has authority to issue new USD?
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> federal reserve?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> ya I guess, or the CIA is know to do some counter fiting
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> just gonna make a new address on opencore for the federal reserve and have them issue some USD lol
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> that should make the CIA happy as they don't have to have that noise printer always running in there basement
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> trustline unlimited USD
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> mhh looks like there are multiple entities who are issueing USD
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> @buhrmi: did you change anything in open-core to improve privacy?
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> can't get more private than open-core
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> what does that even mean
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> for privacy you would just put a group of nodes within a vpn (virtual protected network)
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> well if you want to make transactions that nobody else is supposed to see, I don't think you should use a product that has the word "open" in its name XD
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> but since u can pull addresses out of thin air and just use them as a reciepient without even funding them first, nobody knows who's who
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> true but in a private network no one but a group of gateways or banks would even see that there was any transfers of any kind
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> yeah but why bother running it in a vpn
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> maybe if you're afraid of spam/dos attacks...
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> or if your afraid of anyone snooping to see transaction being made by taping the data stream
Azitrex has quit [Ping timeout: 250 seconds]
<stellar-slack>
<raymens> Yeah it was kind of a vague question :)
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> we will have to repackage buhrmi's open-core without any changes with added vpn and call it closed-core
<stellar-slack>
<buhrmi> i don't think there is ANY need for that :O
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> in reality the guys that made the close-core are the ones that got the 30 million from the banks to proceed to develope and maintain it
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> sorry I forgot the name of the group but it was in that asia meeting a few days ago
<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> the only cool thing I saw they had was 10X as fast to transact at 400ms per transaction

<stellar-slack>
<sacarlson> in our case if a gateway wanted to Know Your Customer by having them attach there drivers licence number of SS# or passport# I think they can encrypt that in the memo field of stellar using the gateway address as the public key to encrypt it by. the gateway is the only one that can decrypt this security info with there seed.

<eva> @lab thank you for this. I didn’t know they had a max limit on accounts …. I’ve thought quite a bit about Gitter, and I do like it. The only potential downside is that it’s mostly intended as a developer chat. Anybody can use it, of course, but the main way to sign in is with github.

<irisli> Hey Philip!

<irisli> If you have any questions about Stellar stuff, feel free to ask. Excited to see you here

<stellar-slack>
<philiphayes> Hey, nice to meet everyone!
<stellar-slack>
<philiphayes> Right, the Berkeley Bitcoin association is interested in running a stellar node
<stellar-slack>
<jed> cool :)
<stellar-slack>
<eva> @philiphayes, that would be awesome. I assume Iris already gave you resources on how to run a node, but feel free to ask if you have more questions :)
<stellar-slack>
<philiphayes> yeah! one of our members is on the http://ocf.berkeley.edu|ocf.berkeley.edu staff, so he might be able to get a node spun up pretty quickly
<stellar-slack>
<eva> sweet
<stellar-slack>
<philiphayes> how many nodes are on the network, as of now? we're wondering how much network io we should be expecting
<stellar-slack>
<jed> there are around 10 nodes now. The io is pretty minimal though
<stellar-slack>
<jed> it depends on the number of txs but there have to be really a lot of txs before it will be high
