ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths

wonders how ppl find this channel when he doesn't advertise it all that much
<kode54>
if it's not +s, alis will find it
<cr1901_modern>
People actually use that to find channels?
<kode54>
I have used it

andlabs: Probably you would have to rewrite libui in K&R C if *TRON is as old as the BTRON link suggests.
<andlabs>
it's complicated, but it's still A Thing

<Lord_Nightmare>
nukeykt: you mentioned on the siliconpr0n wiki that there's also a decap of the ym2413b, is this available somewhere?
<Lord_Nightmare>
"These values were initially created using hardware tests by nukeykt, but later were corrected by crosschecking data with ym2413b die shot. "
<nukeykt>
it's fhb013

<Lord_Nightmare>
wait, i thought fhb013 was ymf281 ?
<Lord_Nightmare>
there's been talk of decapping and staining a ym2413 but we need someone to commit to doing a public die trace of the whole thing, I think

<nukeykt>
fhb013 has ym2413 patches, so it is definitely ym2413b
<nukeykt>
where does "fhb013 is ymf281" statement come from?
<Lord_Nightmare>
wait, how do we know fhb013 has ym2413 patches?
<Lord_Nightmare>
the fhb013 decapped at siliconpr0n was a remarked chip where the original markings were sanded off and it was blacktopped and marked 'ym2413' with a bogus datecode
<Lord_Nightmare>
we don't know what chip it was originally
<Lord_Nightmare>
i assumed it was ymf281 since its a 2-metal cmos process, which wasn't common (though did exist) around the early 90s when the ym2413b was around
<Lord_Nightmare>
the fhb013 die shot at siliconpr0n the ROM even though its implant is ALMOST visible I think, because of weird effects with the doping changing the reflectivity?
<nukeykt>
i've read bits from its ROM and it matches with my patches except bits that do not make any audible difference
<Lord_Nightmare>
you managed to see the bits on the dieshot? what order are they in?
<nukeykt>
From top to bottom: TL, DC, DM, FB, RR, SL, DR, AR, MULTI, KSL, AM, VIB, ET, KSR
<nukeykt>
Instrument order from left to right is 15, 14, ..., 1, TC, SD, BD(car), TOM, HH, BD(mod)

ok, i'll have to draw this out to make sure i have it right
