ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Foone: If you intend to write a BIOS, I've also attempted the same. It sounds fun... I got to the end of intitializing DRAM refresh properly before I had enough. >>

Every clone BIOS I've ever looked at (even Compaq's) keeps a bunch of data structure and entry point offsets the same as IBM's. You end up having to code around these entry points. I couldn't get Watcom C to bend to my will enough to do the BIOS in C.

And most OMF linkers do not support the part of the OMF standard that allows you to absolutely position segments in the image. Your BIOS therefore ends up being a single multi-line assembly file if you don't want to write your own assembler/linker _or_ develop it on DOS :P

(Not exactly a large number of powerful 8088 assemblers on modern systems, are there? I guess NASM and .including is the best bet.)

(Also... good Lord what was 2013-15 me thinking using SCons for a single-file project?)

Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap (remake of WB III on Master System) comes with an FM soundtrack option, which was only available on a Japan-only model of the console. In case someone likes that game and FM tunes. :)

alva: ValleyBell added an FM soundtrack to Sonic 1 on the Master System

it's pretty damn good use of the instruments too
<Foone>
scrape a bunch of pictures from ebay? or use the diagrams from stason?
<cr1901_modern>
Oh I don't mean the data collecting. I mean getting access to hardware to train a deep learner in reasonable amount of time
<cr1901_modern>
also, _can_ the stason/th99 diagrams help me?
<Foone>
if you want your output to look like them, sure
<Foone>
but I don't know where you'd get the hardware. I know google has a product where you can use their hardware for some fee, but I have no idea how much it is and if they're cheapest
