ChanServ changed the topic of ##yamahasynths to: Channel dedicated to questions and discussion of Yamaha FM Synthesizer internals and corresponding REing. Discussion of synthesis methods similar to the Yamaha line of chips, Sound Blasters + clones, PCM chips like RF5C68, and CD theory of operation are also on-topic. Channel logs: https://freenode.irclog.whitequark.org/~h~yamahasynths
<andlabs>
I highly doubt this is going to improve emulation, though
<andlabs>
that explanation of why Japanese MD games sound better is wildly incomplete
<andlabs>
anyway: black manual has an assembly listing of a sample song, the YM2612 application manual which would ahve been distributed by Yamaha themselves to any interested party, a page written by Kazuhiko Nagai describing how to convert voices from the Yamaha DX21 keyboard to the YM2151 chip, a mispalced page of the Application Manual, documentation on how to write the song data by Tokuhiko Uwabo, documentation how to use the sound
<andlabs>
development toolkit by Tokuhiko Uwabo, a translation of the SN76489 manual possibly also by Uwabo, and some flowcharts showing the operation of the driver
<andlabs>
the green manual has the YM2612 application manual with the misplaced page in the right place, Nagai's DX21 page, and a different version of the Uwabo manual on the sound data that also includes some technical information about accessing the sound chips from each CPU, and from then on appears to be identical to the rest of the black manual
<andlabs>
so yeah this is unlikely to improve emulation
<andlabs>
at this point improved emulation would require official Yamaha manufacturing sources
<andlabs>
it may marginally improve Sonic hacking though
<andlabs>
I don't even see anything here about voices
