Can anyone tell me how I can connect to a running IPFS node through a TCP connection from a separate go application and execute the IPFS add command over this connection ?

<Icefoz>
kc1116: There's a HTTP API.
<Icefoz>
But it runs on localhost only by default because there's no security.
<kc1116>
I see, did not notice the HTTP API

Is it possible to put objects without saving them to the filesystem ?
<Icefoz>
Not really. The data needs to be stored somewhere.
<Icefoz>
There's various backends for databases and such.

ok tests ongoing... So when I do "ipfs add ...", no matter if the file with the exact same path/name/hash whatever was already added or not, it always says "added".
<epergny>
and if I add the same file, but with a different name, it's not duplicated. I like that.

and when I add a dir, like "ipfs add -r mydir", and get the output "added Qm... mydir/another_test.txt", what about the string/filename "another_test.txt", does that make it into the db?

for dirs it makes metadata blocks as well as the pure data

oh yup I see it even at the CLI: I can do, say, an "ipfs get ..." using the hash of the dir I put, and I get back the whole content dir (dir itself being named by its hash).
<epergny>
/s/content dir/content of the dir/
<epergny>
that seems very nice so far. Haven't even touched on the decentralized part yet.
