Hm, is it possible to configure IPFS in a kind of "client mode" where it will only ever connect to one other node? I'm okay with that "client node" being part of the DHT and whatnot, I'm just a bit afraid of opening ~800 TCP connections through my company proxy…

iwkse: google groups seems it's just ipfs-users. Best is to follow the implementations you care about (js-ipfs, go-ipfs) on GitHub so you get notifications that way

tarokun: i think you want the ipfs files commands/api
<tarokun>
The problem with the files api is that it's for mutable directories... I actually want immutable ones. And I need to be able to reference the directory by a hash

<LaPingvino>
Hello! I have IPFS running on a VPS and because I tend to add big files to share with friends, it's 75GB big
<LaPingvino>
but many things are one-off, while other things like websites should be guaranteed up
<LaPingvino>
so I was thinking about a smart unpin option, which looks up for every pinned item if it's somewhere else in the network, and can remove pins for things that are redundant enough or maybe some other conditions
<LaPingvino>
and a watch/serve option, so you can just have a directory on your server where automatically the changes get added to ipfs, and never unpinned by the smart unpin unless you remove it from the watched directory
<LaPingvino>
does that sound crazy? shall I file a bug?
<LaPingvino>
because for one, I would be very happy to host many things on my IPFS node, on the other hand I want to be able to do some housekeeping...
