<lordcirth_> TUSF, if you open a pubsub channel for an address, anyone could encrypt & sign a message to that key, then publish it to that channel. Which solves the problem of listening to unknown senders that IPFS normally has.
stoopkid__ has quit [Quit: Connection closed for inactivity]
<lordcirth_> Well, actually you'd add the message as an IPFS block, then send the address to the pubsub channel.
Administrator_00 has joined #ipfs
<TUSF> You mean as a messaging system over IPFS?
szcc007 has quit [Ping timeout: 245 seconds]
<TUSF> I can see something like that working. Just listen to a pubsub channel titled "/msg/PeerID", where you can receive any message encrypted with your public key… If you intend to send it as an IPFS block, you'd have to encrypt that block first, as otherwise someone might figure out what it is through the DHT (maybe?)

joocain2_ has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<lordcirth_> TUSF, yeah, you sign your message, encrypt it, ipfs add it, then pubsub the url

<ctOS> Have anyone considered crawling the web and publishing AMP documents and resources to IPFS? You could get content from all the big news publishers assuming you could successfully claim to be an AMP Cache. It would really kick-start the distributed web in a big way. Not sure how suitable the format is for dweb, though. You'd need to transform the documents a bit to relink resources to IPFS paths.
<ctOS> I wrote about copyright and AMP Caches with this in mind. However, I didn't really conclude on anything regarding whether this would be covered by caching-service safe harbor protections in existing copyright laws. https://www.ctrl.blog/entry/amp-cache-copyright

<savantgarde> I'm unable to build Go projects which depend on github.com/ipfs/go-ipld-cbor v0.0.1, as Go pulls down the wrong version somehow and I get a dependency on github.com/ipfs/go-ipld-node, which leads to a dependency resolution issue
<savantgarde> If I use the go-ipld-cbor revision hash instead of v0.0.1 it actually works

<jimpick> ctOS: you might be interested in some of the experiments we did with Signed HTTP Exchanges and the public ipfs.io web gateway... lidel set up the certificates so it can host .sxg files for AMP
spinza has quit [Quit: Coyote finally caught up with me...]

<ctOS> jimpick: that is indeed very interesting; also interesting separate from AMP. however, the specially minted certificates required are prohibitevly expensive and both Apple and Mozilla are quite negative about the spec.
nighty- has quit [Quit: Disappears in a puff of smoke]
<jimpick> ctOS: that was my experience ... i wanted to try it out, so i bought a single certificate for a month and it cost $20 ... probably not an issue for some content providers, but i don't think it will be massively popular until Let's Encrypt or somebody else provides lower cost certs
<ctOS> jimpick lidel: the short-lived sessions for the signed objects allowed for in the spec are discouraging. objects would expire and become garbage after just a few days (or is it two weeks?)

<ctOS> I’d have more faith in something like the HTTP Alt-Svc spec being updated to allow to switch to an insecure origin with a cryptographically integrity check. Alt-Svc require that the alternate origin has a valid TLS certificate for the original origin. however, the original origin could still guarantee that the client received the intended content by announcing an alternate service that had to return something like an ipfs object
<ctOS> (which is in itself a cryptographically assured hash of the intended content). https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7838
