<savantgarde> Is master of go-ipfs incompatible with github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs-http-client?
<savantgarde> We have a project where we use both go-ipfs and go-ipfs-http-client, and as we're trying to convert to Go modules, it seemed to me as if I had to use the latest revision of go-ipfs, but it uses a version of interface-go-ipfs-core which breaks go-ipfs-http-client

<c0c00n[m]> Good morning @savantgarde, looks like there's a PR about that https://github.com/ipfs/go-ipfs-http-client/pull/10

<savantgarde> I'm really new to IPFS, so not sure how things are supposed to work
<c0c00n[m]> you're welcome
<savantgarde> I can try applying the PR
<c0c00n[m]> I think so
<savantgarde> We also tried using the old non-Go modules versions of IPFS projects, but that also failed in mysterious ways
<savantgarde> So upgrading to latest IPFS looks like our best bet

<c0c00n[m]> I think it's always a good thing to keep up-to-date dependencies. But as all the work is still in progress it sometimes require some deep debugging and little quick hacks to have it working until fixed. Do not hesitate to create issues or PR if you find problems or solutions ;)

<savantgarde> :D
<c0c00n[m]> you're welcome! Have a good day and happy hacking
<savantgarde> I agree about staying up to date with dependencies, but I'm new to this project and not familiar with its history and decisions

<Johannnotgevers[> is there a pinning service that is easy to use that runs on multiple hosts
<Johannnotgevers[> like i have a few files that i want to be pinned in a bunch of different datacenters
<Johannnotgevers[> and it would be cool if i could just install ipfs on a node in each of them
<c0c00n[m]> like pinata.cloud ?
<Johannnotgevers[> and have one tool to manage them
<Johannnotgevers[> self hosted
<Johannnotgevers[> i looked at pinata, no idea where they store those files
<c0c00n[m]> If you just have some servers, you just need to install IPFS on each
<c0c00n[m]> then configure those to create a cluster
<c0c00n[m]> then you'll be able to add auto-pinning
<Johannnotgevers[> like one in every AWS region
<c0c00n[m]> I think you'll also want your nodes not to be public, so you will change the bootstrap list to match your nodes addresses and add a shared private key to all of your node (one same key for every node) so they just don't talk to public nodes
<c0c00n[m]> yes, you can run one in every AWS region if you want a CDN like kind of thing
<Johannnotgevers[> yeah thats the idea
<Johannnotgevers[> thank you, i will look into this
<c0c00n[m]> look for ipfs cluster and private swarm tutorials
<c0c00n[m]> it's just about configuration of your nodes
<c0c00n[m]> BTW, if you want it public, you already can rely on existing CloudFlare CDN which support IPFS
kurosu has joined #ipfs
kurosu has quit [Remote host closed the connection]
<Johannnotgevers[> It is public but i excpet a lot of pulls from within cloud hosters
<Johannnotgevers[> so it would be nice for the users to have an ipfs node with those files in the came location
<Johannnotgevers[> then maybe i can get them download speeds close to disk read speed
<Johannnotgevers[> that would be cool, but just a nice to have
<c0c00n[m]> if it's public, you probably don't need to run your own nodes everywhere on the globe as there's already lots of public nodes that will relay your content...but on demand, which means the first request can take a while but then after the content will be close to other users
<c0c00n[m]> and don't forget that the more a content is spread on a number of nodes, the more speed you'll get as every node can provide chunks of the content at the same time so it speeds up its loading
<Johannnotgevers[> thanks you have been very helpfull
<Johannnotgevers[> apparently, ipfs truly is a golang project :D
<c0c00n[m]> js-ipfs is great and really advanced too ;)

<kyan> Hi! I'm starting work on using IPFS-JS in a project I'm developing. The project relies on a large (in both number and size) ordered set of blobs. It needs multiple computers share, append to, and keep synchronized this data set, and for all computers in this network to retain the ability to write and share the data set independently and then merge their forks of the dataset when connectivity is available.
<kyan> Only some computers should be able to append to it. The computers should be able to connect to each other without centralized infrastructure, and without knowing each others' addresses. How much of this problem space is targeted by IPFS, and how much of it is implemented? Thanks!

<Kolonka[m]> Typo in that AMP article of yours ctOS ("curios"). Nice piece though. Consider telling your readers about Dissenter.
<ctOS> Kolonka[m]: thanks. tell them about what?
<Kolonka[m]> It's an easy way to post to places (maybe it's just noscript etc., but I didn't see any comments section on your pages).
<ctOS> Kolonka[m]: yeah, well the comments on the article on Twitter, HN, and Reddit kind of tells the story of why I don’t want people commenting on my own site. You’ll never see the people who’ve read the article and want to discuss the topic actually leaving comments. It’s spam, self-promotion, or people saying “your wrong because my dad who works at Nintendo told me that … ” Or people who want my help fixing assembling

<Kolonka[m]> ?
<Kolonka[m]> And at the very least, it forces people to visit the specific URL to comment, or otherwise type it into the main site.
<Kolonka[m]> It's been out a few weeks, so at this stage I don't see a ton of potential success for self-promotion. Though, who knows how that could change.
<Kolonka[m]> How is taking public input in here much different though? Other than the fact that this room has a niche.

<kyan> I notice in one of the demos at https://js.ipfs.io/ that it's connected to a lot of peers at libp2p.io. Is IPFS-JS able to establish connections without relying on that, or if DNS is unavailable?
<r0kk3rz> you can set your own bootstrap nodes
<r0kk3rz> not sure what js-ipfs is like in general discovery without bootstraps
