I compiled dtc on my mac and it gives the same "fatal error"

to first split the file before decompiling with dtc

it really baffles me as to why this might be the case as surely this isn't the first box to have such a dtb file

Install an OS image that uses 4.9 kernel, e.g. Android, and hope that 'dtc' is installed
