<chewitt> the goal is to complete the staging drivers and then get them moved out of staging
<chewitt> HEVC is missing, and technically there is also MPEG4 support although I suspect that will be quietly forgotten since everything back as far as S805 should be able to software decode that media
<chewitt> and yes, there is an issue with flushing/draining in ffmpeg which causes hangs on stream end and when seeking
<buzzmarshall> thanx... i just wanted to make sure i was getting the jist of where everything was going
<buzzmarshall> and yes i kinda figured that once things worked out everything would come out of staging into the normal slots
<buzzmarshall> right now i am working of the le masters with your amlogic-master sitting ontop of that and then making my changes ontop of all of that
<buzzmarshall> ive got a side branch as well using xdarks kernel as well while adding some other older stuff into it
<buzzmarshall> trying to expand his m8m2 stuff
<buzzmarshall> normally i just always butcher everything and build in tree and have been making a effort to catch up and learn the newer develop methods with git and stuff and wanted to make sure i was doing it right
<buzzmarshall> once i finish fixing my changes i will probably have to bug ya about the best way to generate patches as thats a area of git ive not really looked much at yet
<buzzmarshall> 1st i need to do a bit more catch up on the drm-api and the ioctls added for prime while trying to understand more about the dma buffers
<buzzmarshall> after spending this time looking at all the changes and fixups its alot easier to see why all of the migration to mainstream is worth it
<buzzmarshall> things already look much cleaner and better organized then the vendors bsp's mess

<chewitt> Amlogic deserve a lot of credit for achieving a working product in a time before any clear standards existed
<chewitt> the mainline effort has the benefit of prior-art and hindsight
<chewitt> frequently they combine to show a clear picture of how not to do something
<chewitt> and it's much easier to focus on the essentials that you really need, vs. the swiss-army-knife approach to bsp kernels
<chewitt> a good example (still in the mainline to-do list) is deinterlacing
<chewitt> the bsp has 20k LOC driver with a huge number of deinterlace methods
<chewitt> in reality you only need 4-5 of them, and it should be do-able in 2k LOC or less
<chewitt> so you end up with smaller, lighter and more efficient code that becomes easier to support

<buzzmarshall> ya i can see what your talking about... i get the propriatary approach tho as i come from the old way of doing things where you really were only concerned about a very narrow range of hardware and the idea of mass support was not the way back then
<buzzmarshall> all this trying to support such a wide range of hardware i get tho as its something that really is needed
<buzzmarshall> especially in this day where manufacturers release so much so quick that they never really truly support anything properly before they move onto the next device
sunn has quit [Ping timeout: 246 seconds]
<buzzmarshall> worst part for me is i am spending more time on dragging my arse up to the newer ways of doing things then actually coding anything
<buzzmarshall> lol

<hellbender> hello, is there anybody who could help me with a kodi installation on RPI2 that doesn't start playing the video and keeps showing the GUI although the kode app says the video is playing?

<turm01l> Hi there, I am lookig for a solution to stream the current Kodi audio output to a set of multi room enabled speakers. I have not bought any speakers yet, so I am open to suggestions what works best with Kodi.
<turm01l> Anyone knows if fritsch is hanging out here any more?

<turm01l> I saw a thread that hints that snapcast server and client are already integrated with LE, is that correct?

<mack-> I have no experience with multispeakers, but I've seen people discussing snapcast, pulseaudio and mpd, just to give you more options
<turm01l> thats why I was asking if snapserver and snapclient already are included with LE
<turm01l> so are they?
<turm01l> One thing is that you still need a raspi for a speaker to connect. I would prefer some speaker I can just buy and that supports a protocol that I can push out of Kodi. Are there speakers with snapclient? There are Chromast-enabled speakers in the market, but what about chromcast streaming out of Kodi, does that work?
<turm01l> mpd is just a player, I dont need that, Kodi is a player already. right?
<turm01l> Pulseaudio is just a switchboard low level software that you can use to capture the Kodi audio stream and feed that into something like icecast or snapcast.
<turm01l> But it would be nice if there is already support for that coming with LE, so that icecast or snapcast just need to be enabled and Audio out set to use snapcast or icecast. With icecast you could use Ikea-Sonos right away as speakers
<mack-> I almost mentioned sonoff speakers. I know people use them, but couldn't remember I've read about their use in kodi specifically or other solutions.

<turm01l> you mean sonos. sonoff is someting else :)
<turm01l> yeah, you need to send the output through icecast and then you can make sonos use that "radio" stream
<turm01l> But is this available as an addon?
