<pletopia>

andy-burns has quit [Ping timeout: 256 seconds]
<pletopia>
apparently its missing in the linux kernal at this time
<pletopia>
"Please manually install Realtek RTL8125B driver to activate the Ethernet ports. Otherwise the Ethernet ports don’t work due to a missing device driver in Linux Kernel. " .. from the hardkernal website

<buzzmarshall>
not sure if anyone has tried back porting them into any of the 5.8 or 5.7 kernels yet... i know so far i have not seen anyone but do see the drivers are in the lastest linux-firmware package

hey all!
<dikiy>
I have a following problem. The second SD-card in a 3 month is dead
<dikiy>
I'm using libreelec on a raspberry pi
<dikiy>
Is there some rasonable reason for it?
<dikiy>
The SD cards was from
<dikiy>
sandisk
<pragmaticenigma>
were they brand new when they were installed?
<dikiy>
yes
<buzzmarshall>
weird, but i have run across issues with sandisk before which is why i won't use them... normally they are ok but i think they get bad runs once and awhile
<buzzmarshall>
unless theres a issue with the rpi i can't see what would be in something like LE that would wear them out like that
<pragmaticenigma>
dikiy, Do you have debugging enabled or any of the logging features enabled?
<buzzmarshall>
more then likey just a bad batch of sandisk's.... they both come from the same source at the same general time period
<MrTAP>
are you using the pi as a pvr?
<buzzmarshall>
even still one would think in a 3 month period the wear leveling would get you longer then that even with heavy logging
<buzzmarshall>
you might be right tho with the pvr thing tho
<pragmaticenigma>
depends on the size of the card though too... smaller card, less cells to wear level with

good point... if its just a small one i quess you could toast it
<dikiy>
pragmaticenigma: yes, I saw in a dmesg log, that there are errors on reading mmc
<dikiy>
MrTAP: yes, sometimes
<dikiy>
buzzmarshall: ah, logging was disabled till I ran into the problem
<dikiy>
it is 32GB one

sd cards are not happy with heavy r/w cycles... best connect a ssd to the pi to use for pvr recording
<MrTAP>
also as mentioned, sometimes sd cards just don't last even when they aren't abused

<pletopia>
