<tepiloxtl>
What kind of performance should I get from libreelec on OG RPi
<tepiloxtl>
Like, what I expected it to be is to be slow
<tepiloxtl>
But its "2 minutes for settings to open" kind of slow
<lrusak>
:)
<mack->
tepiloxtl: it shouldn't be that slow. Sounds like a low quality, slow, or broken SD card if it's booting okay. You could also try 8.2 instead of a newer version. It would handle the default interlacer better than version 9's also.

<tepiloxtl>
Its an older SD card, so it might be scuffed a bit
<r0bert>
i used to run LE on my rpi-1 up until 2 months ago
<r0bert>
everything was basically running w/o issues
<r0bert>
not superfast but def not "2min to open settings"
<tepiloxtl>
This one has been running some companys intranet and cups server for the better part of last decade before getting decomissioned, so Im expecting anything really
<pragmaticenigma>
If it's the same SD-Card that was im there from the company, I would replace it... it's probably getting close to EOL or possibly even a really low class rating on the card
<tepiloxtl>
I think it is, in which case, yeah
<tepiloxtl>
Oh, its some noname brand 8gb card
<tepiloxtl>
I just would thought slow SD card would affect working of the os so much
<tepiloxtl>
Im gonna guess class 4 is too slow?
<pragmaticenigma>
RaspberryPi.org recommends their Class 6... I don't remember what the first gen RPi's had for SD card reader specifications
<|Jeroen|>
i have never seen a fast sd, they all seem slow
<|Jeroen|>
emmc does make a lot of difference
<pragmaticenigma>
SD wasn't really intended for this type of usage either though. more of a single operation of either writing to, or reading from
<pragmaticenigma>
*single operation at a time
<|Jeroen|>
yeah true
<pragmaticenigma>
My first gen Rpi was re-designated to my home network DNS provider, with HDD on the USB mounted at /var to minimize the writes against the SD
<|Jeroen|>
i used to use NFS root for kodi, but now i put .kodi on a smb share
<|Jeroen|>
makes a lot of difference
<pragmaticenigma>
I've never saved my media on the LE installation. it's always been a file share for content
<pragmaticenigma>
and almost immediately figured out how to implement MySQL for the Video and Music meta data
<|Jeroen|>
yeah but moving the .kodi to network also makes it a lot faster
<|Jeroen|>
yeah mysql is nice but only works for video lib etc
<|Jeroen|>
the thumbs db and other stuff is still sqlite on the .kodi folder
<pragmaticenigma>
I've been trying to figure out how to store those files on the network share, but so far, they don't play nicely as I would like to them do
<|Jeroen|>
no sqlite get corrupt on nfs
<|Jeroen|>
but on smb it seems to work here
<pragmaticenigma>
big one for me is the images and thumbnails of the cover art... would like to see those shared to all instances
<|Jeroen|>
dunno if that is possible
<pragmaticenigma>
haven't had a lot of time to spend on it to try
<|Jeroen|>
i wish they would just move all stuf to sql
<pragmaticenigma>
the SQL part has been an after thought, and not heavily maintained by the kodi group
<|Jeroen|>
no pitty
<pragmaticenigma>
My interactions with that community has kind left the impression they'd like to take it out all together
<|Jeroen|>
yeah it seems the core is kinde stuck for years
<|Jeroen|>
i don't read the release logs, but i don't see all that much improvments in kodi latest 5 years
