<buzzmarshall>
on another note i do have some mt7668 sources with blobs that are tied to 5.4 kernel for a totally unrelated embedded board thats using a wifi board with the mt7668
<buzzmarshall>
part of those sources are binary patches applied to a earlier older blob from older kernel

<chewitt>
mt7668 sources for 5.4 should be usable or would be a good starting point .. feel free to post the bits somewhere
<chewitt>
the 4.9 sources from CE repos are not usable
<buzzmarshall>
from what i was lead to believe the 5.4 sources arent complete
<buzzmarshall>
meaning the wifi blobs were not there
<buzzmarshall>
correct me tho if i am wrong as ive not really followed that particular chipset
<buzzmarshall>
i was under the impression the ethernet and bluetooth were there but wifi wasn't
<buzzmarshall>
but maybe thats changed recently
<chewitt>
BT is already upstream but might need testing/tweaking to get working .. I suspect it tries to run at the wrong serial speed
<chewitt>
and MT7668 is a wireless chipset so not related to Ethernet
<chewitt>
nothing upstream .. it appears to be not part of the mt76 driver

btw, I looked in your git repo the other day after reading a forum post
<chewitt>
in the post you do confess to being a git n00b (or words to that effect)
<chewitt>
the main mistake is making changes in the master branch
<chewitt>
changes should always go in a topic branch (something other than master)
<chewitt>
as this allows you to fetch/reset or merge or pull changes from LE master (upstream) and then rebase the topic branch against the changes
<chewitt>
i.e. you can maintain your changeset over time

if you work in master, first time you get changes from us it will obliterate your local changes (or refuse to update)
TheSilentLink_ is now known as TheSilentLink
<chewitt>
and rebase is _the_ git trick to learn for maintenance tasks

@buzzmarshall incase you read the chat logs: it is interesting to note that the firmware itself is married to the kernel version. I didn't even think that was possible since we had the driver source

aha, I typoed an environment variable and it was building an x86-64 kernel instead of an arm kernel; I get 4.4.154 now
<jasom>
well I get a linux-<long-sha-hash> that has a version string of 4.4.154 anyways
<jasom>
I'm seeing multiple HDMI audio issues on the RockPro64; hdmi passthrough of compressed audio flat out doesn't work with my denon AVR-S730H which should support all of the passthrough options I saw in the config. PCM audio works, but has dropout issues, that seem to be much worse with multi-channel compared to stereo.
<jasom>
ah, looks like the passthrough is expected with the 4.x non-mainline kernel.
<jasom>
I can run SPDIF to get audio working for now
