<pere> hi. is there a good recipe for running kodi in portrait mode, aka with rotated screen? I only find non-working recipes.
<pere> I get it to boot using rotated display, and the boot logo show up the right way in the center of the screen, but the kodi view is only using part of the height and is drawing stuff outside the screen, as if it believe the screen is not rotated.

<asdf28> when building libreelec, is there a method to temporarily exclude a package? except for removing it from the source files, of course
buzzmarshall has joined #libreelec
<buzzmarshall> sorry for yesterdays stupidity and it won't happen again as i am done listening to his whining and bugging me for help everytime he comes on, that will no longer happen
<buzzmarshall> once again i apologize for being part of that
<pragmaticenigma> pere: What exactly are you trying to do? with the exception of mobile content, most videos and the like are displayed in the landscape orientation

<pere> pragmaticenigma: I tried to use the kodi screen saver to show images from a rss stream on a machine with a htmi screen tilted 90 degrees. I concluded that libreelec/kodi could not on rpi, so I dropped it and moved to raspian.
<pragmaticenigma> pere: sounds like a good idea :)
<pere> I've used kodi in landscape mode to do it on other screens, and hoped to use the same setup on this new one, but alas.
<pere> kodi seem to ignore the actual screen resolution, no idea why.
<pragmaticenigma> about the only thing that I can think of would be to have something sitting between the RSS feed and KODI that rotated the pictures before KODI displayed them... like a proxy service or something
<pragmaticenigma> but that's a lot of extra steps to take, when simple approaches are available
<lrusak> pere on RPi you need to set the rotation in the firmware via config.txt
<pere> lrusak: did that, as I said. did not solve it.
<lrusak> display_hdmi_rotate=1
<pere> exactly.
<lrusak> was this an RPi4?
<lrusak> and were you actually using hdmi?
<pere> rpi 1B+, if I am not mistaken.
<pere> what is the alternative to 'actually using hdmi'?
<pragmaticenigma> Composite video
<pragmaticenigma> The RCA port (yellow) on the Rpi first gen series
<lrusak> or the RPi LCD touchscreen
<pere> I used the long plug, not the round one, yes. :)
