<de-facto> probably but how does Samsung TVs or such make it then?
<chewitt> de-facto if using K19 (LE10) you can install "Tubed" from the Kodi repo
Tobbi has joined #libreelec
<anxdpanic> Tv's etc using an official app aren't under the same restrictions obviously, the YouTube add-on is not an official YouTube product, and the api issues stem from not being able to satisfy the requirements (branding etc as mentioned above). Tubed is available in Kodi 19, it's not a 1:1 but is an attempt to resolve the API requirements/issues.
kriger has joined #libreelec
<chewitt> it works well for me so far .. and not needing to mess around with api keys is a huge win
<chewitt> the killer feature for me would be a more you-tube like icon that has a black background :)
<de-facto> i am using 9.2 Leia or such
<chewitt> as a blue remote-like icon doesn't scream YouTube, and I loathe mostly-white icons (using Estuary)
Turmoil has joined #libreelec
<chewitt> anxdpanic Tubed is python3 only, right?
turm01l has quit [Ping timeout: 265 seconds]
<anxdpanic> Yea, Tubed is python3 only
<de-facto> does not seem to be in that repo for 9.x
Turmoil is now known as turm01l
<anxdpanic> We started with a more YouTube like icon, was forced to change it as part of the OAuth review. Changing the icon requires re-doing that process :/
<chewitt> ahh.. that sucks
<chewitt> I can understand why they objected tho
<chewitt> If you're a 'brand name' company.. branding is everything
<anxdpanic> absolutely. it was a frustrating process overall, but all the requests were reasonable in the end. the responses were very vague sometimes, left me digging through policies to figure out what was wrong hah
<anxdpanic> hoping the quota increase requests go smoother, haven't had to do one of those yet.

<de-facto> Question: what would i need to enable LE 9.2 to be a UPnP/DLNA rendering endpoint in a network with miniDLNA (server) and BubbleUPnP control?

<turm01l> are the endpoints in the same subnet or in different subnets?
gavlee has joined #libreelec
<de-facto> same subnet and it seems it already is an rendering endpoint out of the box
<de-facto> i still have to get used to that UPnP taking its time to discover network devices
k3yp has joined #libreelec
chewitt has joined #libreelec
<turm01l> on the same subnet it should "just work"
<turm01l> you may use kodi as a dlna media source, i am not sure if you can also use it as a player
<turm01l> as a media source it will to the transcoding of video or music library items
<turm01l> Settings > Services > UPnP/DLNA enable that stuff
chewitt has quit [Quit: Zzz..]
<turm01l> I sincerely think if you want a DLNA player, Kodi is not the right choice, but I may be wrong. If that is what you want, look for Plex or Emby

<de-facto> i want it to be the rendering endpoint because its connected to my tv
<de-facto> i dont care about media libraries on LibreELEC/Kodi, i would not store any media on my TV
<de-facto> I have all media in miniDLNA server on same network segment in an OpenWRT
<de-facto> then o control both via Bubble UPnP with my Android
<de-facto> i think it already works just fine
<de-facto> probably i could disable the media library functions in LibreELEC
<de-facto> i dont see any scenario where i would need those (what is their purpose anyhow)?
<de-facto> well maybe if i had a NAS on my LibreELEC and would want to share that with other TVs on same network
chewitt has joined #libreelec
<turm01l> if you dont have a kodi library, why do you use kodi for anyway? in your case I would just use the dlna renderer of my tv or install Plex
<turm01l> just my 2 cents, I don't understand your use case for kodi at all.
<turm01l> I guess you need to accept that kodi is not a good DLNA renderer, unless you change that.
kriger has quit [Read error: Connection timed out]
<turm01l> If you do not see the use of Kodi's Library thats fine. You do know that the DLNA group is disbanded and that there is not progress in that technology and I guess it will just stagnate and fall apart in the future. If you are happy with the quality of DLNA, enjoy it as long as it lasts.
